A wonderful second night of racing was on hand at Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday June 29th for Elma Chamber of Commerce Night. The American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region and Northwest Extreme Late Model Series were once again in action.

Defending American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region champion Roger Crockett found himself back in victory lane at Grays Harbor Raceway in night two of the 2013 Bully Dog Performance Speedweek Northwest presented by Contingency Connection on Saturday June 29th. The Medford, Oregon maestro would become the second different winner in as many nights with Speedweek Northwest this year.
Starting the feature out though in the desired top spot would be Garen Linder of Central Point, Oregon setting the pace in the early goings in his Linder Powdercoating/Rodgers Racing Engines #22L KPC.

Linder would stay out in front until lap seven when the SKS Racing/Al Parker Racing Engines #11 KPC of Roger Crockett would earn the race lead. Crockett would complete the rest of the distance in first place by mastering lapped traffic to win his second race with ASCS-Northwest in 2013 and his fifth career Speedweek Northwest win at GHR.

Garen Linder would end the evening in second followed by Princeton, California’s Mason Moore in the Moore Insurance Services Inc./LRB Race Products/ Rodgers Racing Engines #22 machine in the third. Completing the top five finishers was Stanwood’s Jared Peterson driving the Island Muffler and Brake/All Points Petroleum #7N KPC, for car owner Roger Henderson, in fourth and Trey Starks from Puyallup in fifth in the Starks Timber Processing/Blue Dot Fabrication #55 Schnee.

Three heat races were ran earlier in the evening with victories going to Jay Cole of Shelton in his Our Community Credit Union/Bulldog Trailers #0J XXX, the Great Western Transport/Elma Lanes #9R Eagle of Reece Goetz from Snohomish, and Garen Linder. Colton Akerstrom of Bawlf, Alberta was the winner of the consolation feature in his Oil Drop Consulting/Midnight Oil #31 XXX.

After leading much of the feature on Friday night Vancouver’s Jerry Schram was bound and determined to leave Elma with the winner’s trophy Saturday. Jacob Myers of Salem was the early race leader for the first few laps in his Baxter Auto Parts/Powell Motors #9 Rayburn before being overtaken on lap three by Jason Johnson.

Jason Johnson, of Gresham, set a good pace in his Jackhammer Trucking/T&G Trucking #76 Rayburn leading for some time until being passed on lap fifteen. That is when Jerry Schram entered the scene as the race leader.

Once the Schram Brothers Excavating/Century III Stables #16 MasterSbilt got to the front he would not look back. Schram would score the victory and became the third different winner in seven events. It also marked his first series win at the Grays Harbor Raceway.

Greg Walters from Banks, Oregon would finish in the runner-up position in his T&G Trucking/American Landscaping #97 Victory Circle followed by Jason Johnson. Night one winner Collen Winebarger of Corbett, Oregon was fourth in the Discount Race Car Parts/All In Property Investments #1 MasterSbilt while the Smart Windows/A.B. Graphics #88 MasterSbilt of Brush Prairie’s John Gamell in fifth.

Earlier in the night Collen Winebarger was quickest in time trials at 17.121 seconds. Winebarger and Greg Walters were heat race winners while Winebarger would win the trophy dash.

Both the staff of Grays Harbor Raceway and the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region would like to extend a huge special thanks to Barry Martinez and the entire Speedmart Inc. crew for making it down and help make the weekend a wonderful success.

Next Saturday July 6th GHR will have their Mid-Season Championship with a massive fireworks display taking place once all of the racing is complete. Classes on hand will be the Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modifieds, USAC Ford Focus Midgets, Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, and Hornets.
