FVP National Sprint League News and Notes from Eagle and Cedar Lake!

Windom, MN (September 14, 2015) – Two big FVP National Sprint League events last weekend ended in dramatic fashion. Bill Balog picked up his first Nebraska Cup at the Eagle Raceway in Nebraska on Friday. Terry McCarl became the first three-time winner of the Jerry Richert Memorial Saturday night at Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, Wisconsin. The NSL has its eyes towards a two-night “Fearless 410 Finale” October 2 and 3 at the I-80 Speedway near Greenwood, Nebraska. The finale will pay $7,000 to win and $1,000 to start. Steve Kinser is expected to be amongst the invaders trying to steal the big check on the high-banked 4/10-mile oval.

Balog Picks up His Second – Bill Balog shot under Lynton Jeffrey and went on to win Friday’s Nebraska Cup at Eagle. It was his second NSL win of the season, and was worth $3,911. The “North Pole Nightmare” moved into fourth place in the point standings with his strong night, but when the dust settled on Saturday, he and Terry McCarl were in a dead heat for the position heading into the last two races of the season.

TMAC Rides to His Third – McCarl got by Brian Brown in traffic at Cedar Lake and went on to win both his third Jerry Richert Memorial and his third NSL win of the season. That win thanks to bonus money was worth $3,500. TMAC found a September use for his TheSnowplow.com snow shovel when he fended off a champagne blast in Victory Lane. He capped off the weekend by winning the $10,000 main event at the Huset’s Speedway in South Dakota Sunday.

Remembering 9/11 – The fallen heroes of 9/11 were honored at Eagle Raceway Friday night. Several area fire trucks and firemen came on the track for opening ceremonies. 343 firefighters lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy fourteen years ago.

Finally Clinched – Though few have doubted Danny Lasoski and the GoMuddy.com team were going to win the NSL championship this season, we can now say it has been mathematically clinched. Clinching with two races to go shows the domination the “Dude” has put together in his magical 2015 season. In addition to leading the series in wins with nine, he leads the series in podium finishes (16), top fives (20) and top tens (25).

What Have You Done for Me Lately? – Points-wise, Brian Brown and Ian Madsen have been the hottest drivers the last five races. Both had second place finishes last weekend. The top five in points over the last five races look like this: Brown 1347, Madsen 1300, McCarl 1271, Tim Kaeding 1233 and Lynton Jeffrey 1230. Jeffrey notched his first podium of the year on Friday at Eagle.

Rough Night for Tasker – A streak of good luck turned bad for Tasker Phillips at Eagle Raceway. He hooked a rut and flipped in turn two, collecting Ian Madsen. Madsen’s team was able to get Ian back in the feature where he finished second. Unfortunately, Tasker had to pack up and head to Cedar Lake.

Kudos to the Richert Family – The Jerry Richert Memorial again proved why it is one of the premier racing events in the upper Midwest again. Sponsors and the Richert family added $9,000 to the purses in a race program featuring three sprint car classes. In addition, they provided a Barbecue feast afterwards for any fans who made it down to the pits. As usual, the racing was exceptional as well!
