Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park would be a packed house on Saturday, August 13th for the 3rd Annual Drivers Appreciation Night presented by 98.7 The Bull. A total of ten classes would be ran over the course of the night resulting in several familiar faces returning to victory lane while there would also be some new ones too. Divisions in action include the Super Late Models (with the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series), Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks, IMCA Sport Mods, Pure Stocks, Dwarf Cars, 4-Bees, New Bees, and both classes of 600cc Micro Sprints.

In the Late Models both the Super Late Models and Northwest Extreme Late Model Series would be in attendance. Portland’s Joey Tanner may not have covered the most distance in first place but he managed to do so for the laps that counted. Tanner made the decisive pass on lap twenty-two and held down the position the rest of the distance to win his second feature this year at Banks.

The Budweiser IMCA Modifieds would see plenty of exchanges of the lead but it would be Jerry Schram finishing on top. For Schram, of Vancouver, Washington, it would be his first win in the IMCA Modifieds but his second overall win at the ¼-mile oval in 2016. Hillsboro’s John Henry would be the top placer in the IMCA Sport Mods to get his fourth triumph.

Getting the lead on lap nine Joey Tardio would take care of business in the Bridgeport Logistics Street Stocks. Tardio, from nearby Cornelius, would remain in the top spot for the remainder of the distance to pull off a tremendous win. The success wouldn’t stop there as Tardio pulled double duty during the night and competed in his customary division, the Pure Stocks. Tardio got to the front in the closing laps of the main event and won that race as well. It was his first Street Stock win of the year while the second time he has been victorious in the Pure Stocks.

In the 600cc Micro Open ranks Deming, Washington’s Jeff Little made it to the winner’s circle. Little made it to the front of the pack on lap five and was the first occasion he has won at Banks this year. In the 600cc Micro Restricted ranks Casey Starr, of Newberg, possessed the top spot from start to finish to make her first appearance of the season at victory lane.

The “House of Tow” would reign supreme at Banks yet again. But this time, it would be Guy Tow Sr. grabbing the win. Tow, of Rainier, took the lead on lap seven and never looked back to get his first win this year. Vernonia’s Tylor Owen would obtain the top spot on lap ten in the 4-Bee feature. Owen collected an incredible fifth win at the “Banks Bullring”. Bailey Jackson, from Carlton, would make a late race pass in the New Bee division to win her second victory of the season.

Sunset Speedway Park will not be racing on Saturday, August 20th and will be taking a week off due to the Banks Barbeque and Tractor Pulls. SSP returns to action on Saturday, August 27th for the T&G Thriller/Doug Walters Classic presented by Maletis Beverage. Make sure and stay tuned by visiting www.sunsetspeedwaypark.com.
