McIntosh Makes Sprint Car Debut after Top Ten Midget Run at Meeker

Lonnie Wheatley, BIXBY, Okla. (April 19, 2018) – Already with a Midget feature win to his credit last year, 15-year-old Cannon McIntosh makes another big step by making his Sprint Car debut at Friday night’s ASCS Red River Region event atop Sapulpa, Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway clay oval.
After taking in his first career Sprint Car laps on Friday night, McIntosh and the RL Hudson/Toyota-TRD No. 08 Midget team will make the trek to Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway on Saturday night for POWRi National Midget action via an assist from Big Shirley Productions and Sanders and Associates.
“I’m really excited about it,” the Bixby, OK, native said of his slated Sprint Car maiden voyage on Friday night. “We haven’t got any laps in it yet, so I’m looking forward to it.”
McIntosh enters the weekend after racing to an eighth-place finish is last Friday night’s 25-lap POWRi West Midget event at Meeker, Oklahoma’s Red Dirt Raceway.
McIntosh made a last-lap move to win his heat race at Red Dirt Raceway, landing a front row starting position in the feature. After battling amongst the lead group in the early going, McIntosh rebounded from a turn two miscue to post the strong top-ten finish at the quarter-mile oval.
“It was fun, I just made a couple of mistakes that cost us a better finish,” McIntosh said of the Red Dirt Raceway outing. “The car was great, we kept driving to the front with it.”
After making his first Sprint Car laps on Friday at Creek County Speedway, Saturday will mark McIntosh’s first visit to Pevely’s I-55 Raceway.
“I haven’t been there but it looks like a racy place, it should be fun,” McIntosh commented. “We’re definitely looking forward to this weekend.”
Along with RL Hudson and Toyota-TRD, other marketing partners making the ambitious 2018 slate of events possible includes American Discount, Complete Auto Care, Best Graphics, Fieldhouse Gear, Precision Inspection, Sanders and Associates, Panels by Smoke, Walker Performance, Sanders Wheels, American Discount Brake and Muffler, D&N Fabrication, Car and Fleet and Infinity Shocks.
