Shayne Bailey and CJ Turner Shine during the Bud Shootout at US 36 Raceway

OSBORN, Mo. – With the ASCS Warrior Region and Sprint Series of Nebraska on hand for the Bud Shootout, both the IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars had the opportunity to race with under the bright lights of US 36 Raceway.

Shayne Bailey looked fast in his IMCA Modified heat. He consistently clocked the fastest times during his heat in route to the win. As soon as the green flew in the feature it was clear Bailey made the right adjustments with the changing track. He made the move to the lead from his third place starting position in the opening corner and dominating the rest of the race.

Chad Clancy had to start deep in the field and worked his way up to second. He needed a caution in order to catch Bailey. The caution Clancy wanted, and Bailey wished never flew fell at half way, erasing a 2.5 second lead. Bailey wasn’t fazed and, on the restart, quickly reestablished a two-plus second lead. Bailey’s trip to Westfall GMC Victory lane was the first in his 2019 season at US 36. Clancy finished second after starting ninth. Tyler Hibner charged from his eighth place starting position to finish third. Hibner made a move on Clancy for second on the lap 10 restart, but Clancy took the position back a few laps later. Michael Dotson finished fourth with Jim Masoner Jr. in fifth.

The IMCA Stock Cars set the tone for the night as they ran a green to checkered feature. With no cautions, drivers never had the opportunity to regroup. That was something CJ Turner used to his advantage as he ran 15 perfect laps out front to claim the win. Turner held a few car lengths lead most of the race and never had a reason the change his line. Those chasing him, Blake Peeler, Thomas Roberts and Connor Masoner were ready to make a move if Turner would have given them the opportunity. With the laps winding down, the three started racing each other and let Turner drive away and seal the win. Within the battle for second, Peeler managed to come from a seventh place starting position to finish second. Roberts finished third, with Masoner fourth. Tim Eaton finished out the top five.

In the sprint car action, US 36 weekly competitors made a strong showing in the Sprint Series of Nebraska feature. Last week’s IMCA RaceSaver Sprint winner, Mike Moore paced the field early. As he approached lapped traffic, one car got into the fence collecting Moore and ending his race. From there, Mike Houseman Jr., who is the current US 36 points leader, dominated the rest of the 25-lap race, picking up the Sprint Series of Nebraska win. Tyler Drueke charged from ninth to finish second. Joey Danley followed Drueke, finishing third after starting tenth. Adam Gullion and Toby Chapman made up the rest of the top five.

The ASCS Warrior region saw Miles Paulus pick up the checkered flag. Jack Dover finished second, with Nicholas Howard third.

Up next for US 36 Raceway is another action-packed night, as it is the rescheduled Modified Madness. The IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods and E-Modifieds take center stage in the annual modified special. If that isn’t enough, the Iowa Sprint Car League will be back for their second appearance of 2019 on the high banks as well.
