Tanner Swanson comes home 4th in Iowa

After solid runs for both Team 6R Racing drivers in Milwaukee, hopes were high that Tanner Swanson or Brian Tyler could bring home a win from the following week's event at Iowa Speedway. By race's end, no such luck was to be had.

The trip out to Iowa wasn't all doom and gloom, and for a while it seemed completely possible that Team 6R Racing would end up in Victory Lane. Young Tanner Swanson qualified his powered by Toyota #23 on the outside of the front row, for the 2nd week in a row. Brian Tyler qualified around the 15th spot, but everyone remembers his drives from the tail to win events like the "Tony Bettenhausen 100," and knows to never count him out. After the drop of the green, Tanner stalked race leader Brad Sweet, and made his move to take over the top spot on lap 25! Bobby East took the lead from Tanner just 10 laps later, and the duo continued to pull away from the field. However, nearing the end of the race, the handling seemed to continue to go away from Tanner's #23, and with just 10 laps to go in the non-stop affair, he fell to 4th. Coming through the final corners, his RR tire finally blew out, yet he limped to the line to keep his 4th finishing position. The Hoosier tire rep took a good look at the tire, and mentioned that it was probably going flat for some time, judging by the severe wear (to the cords) on both edges of the tire. Brian Tyler didn't seem to have any better luck, as he was never able to make a charge toward the front, and finished the event in 16th.

With 6 events remaining on the 2011 series schedule, Team 6R Racing is still within striking distance of their annual goal: the USAC Silver Crown championship. Drivers Tanner Swanson and Brian Tyler currently sit 3rd and 7th in the series standings. Coming up next for the USAC Traxxas Silver Crown series is the "Sumar Classic" at the Terre Haute Action Track this Sunday, July 3rd.
