Inside Line Promotions – KILGORE, Texas (May 28, 2019) – Channin Tankersley registered his sixth top five in eight races this season last Sunday at LoneStar Speedway to cap an ASCS Gulf South Region versus ASCS Lone Star Region doubleheader.

The Old School Racing competitor overcame a frustrating night on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where he ended with a DNF. Tankersley was strong early at the half-mile oval, where he won a heat race to make the feature redraw. He then pulled the highest number – eight – to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“We got going really good, but had a flat left rear tire early on,” he said. “I think we went from eighth to second in about a lap. We had a caution on Lap 4. I guess running around under caution it went flat. I didn’t realize it and right before we got ready to go back green they came yelling on the radio. I went to the work area and didn’t have time to get back out.”

Tankersley was credited with a 20th-place finish.

He rebounded on Sunday at LoneStar Speedway, where Tankersley maneuvered from sixth to fourth place in a heat race. That ranked ninth in overall points, which was only one position out of the feature redraw and lined him up ninth for the A Main.

“We started off the night solid and had a really fast heat race,” he said. “We advanced a couple of spots, but we just barely missed the redraw. That put us starting midpack and the track wasn’t real racy. You could move around, but it was hard to pass. I couldn’t get going well enough to really pass. I was maintaining. If someone made a mistake we’d pass, but once we all got strung out it was about single file.”

Tankersley’s fourth-place run extended his lead in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings to 121 points at the midpoint of the season.

He is scheduled to resume competition on June 8 at Chatham Speedway in Chatham, La., with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
