FLORA, Ill. – Coming off a weekend of racing to the northeast of his new Fountaintown, Ind. home, Cale Thomas and his team turned the other direction and headed southwest to the recently reopened Route 45 Raceway in Flora, Ill. An open-wheel special night featured not only the Midwest Open Wheel Association winged 410 sprints, but the WAR East wingless sprints and the Budget America Midget Series. Thomas took a fifth-place finish while searching for more ground, when the skies opened and washed away the rest of the night.

A night plagued with threatening rain was almost over before it started, but track crews feverishly worked to get the surface back in condition for racing. When the time came for winged sprint heat races, Thomas rolled off from the fourth position, garnering two more positions to take the runner-up spot and earn himself a place in the dash. In that six-lapper, Thomas started fifth and battled the whole race for fourth but couldn’t manage the pass.

Locking in his fifth-place spot on the grid, Thomas fell back early in the feature race. With a car set up for a slicker track, things began to play right into his hands. He was able to maneuver the bottom side of the speedway when most other drivers were forced to the high line. Restarting sixth after a caution nearing halfway through the 25 scheduled laps, he powered back into the top five and set his sights on the rear bumper of fourth. All over his competitor, the action was halted for a car flipping in turn four. Thomas was anxious to get back to green-flag racing; then the rains came. The downpour was deemed too much to continue racing, and the night’s event was over, leaving Thomas feeling like something was left on the table.

Thomas would like to thank Engler Machine and Tool, Factory Kahne, J&J Auto Racing, Kaeding Performance, Donovan Engineering, Spike Products, Simpson Indy, Maxima Oils, Hoosier Racing Tire, Blackbeard, and Shadow Graphics, as well as all of his fans for their continued support.

Thomas is currently seeking additional sponsorship going forward. For more information, please contact Thomas or Redbeard Promotions with any inquiries.

Thomas is next scheduled to compete in the All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Sprint Speedweek, beginning at Attica Raceway Park on June 19, followed by Eldora Speedway on June 20, Waynesfield Raceway Park on June 21, Wayne County Speedway on June 22, Sharon Speedway on June 23, Atomic Speedway on June 24, Fremont Speedway on June 25, Limaland Motorsports Park on June 26, and Fremont Speedway again on June 26, all in the No. 91 410ci winged sprint entry.
