Meseraull Wins a Wild One in USAC/CRA Shootout at Calistoga

When all was said and done, Thomas Meseraull was one of the last few left standing, almost literally, as the San Jose, California survived a war of attrition to take his first career series victory in Sunday’s “Louie Vermiel Classic” AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car feature at Calistoga Speedway.

Meseraull had two separate stints at the front, including the first two laps as well as the final four, taking the lead from Carson Macedo after a caution period brought about due to contact between himself and Macedo in turn one on lap 26.

As the two slid into turn one, the right rear tire of Meseraull’s car and Macedo’s left front made contact. Macedo veered right toward the wall after contact, bouncing the right rear of the concrete before barrel-rolling several times between turns one and two.

Meseraull would lead the final four laps that included two more separate red flags for flips by Jake Swanson and Cody Williams, whose incident on the last lap put the race over the mandatory curfew time, forcing officials to throw the checkered flag with Meseraull in front in his Josh Bates/SportClips – LRB Manufacturing/Maxim/Kistler.

Meseraull was followed by new series point leader and “California Sprint Week” point leader Richard Vander Weerd and Geoff Ensign, who took home the BR Motorsports/King Racing Products Hard Charger award after moving from 23rd to 3rd. Austin Williams came home fourth in front of Chad Boespflug, who rounded out the top-five.

The series continues Monday, September 5, with round three of “California Sprint Week” at Petaluma (CA) Speedway.
