Miller Opens 61st annual Jim Albert Memorial Gold Cup at Castrol Raceway With NSA Shootout Victory

Inside Line Promotions – EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada (Aug. 26, 2016) – Kelly Miller claimed Round 3 of the NSA Shootout on Friday during the opening night of the 61st annual Jim Albert Memorial Gold Cup at Castrol Raceway.

Miller took the lead from polesitter Travis Rilat on Lap 4 and maintained the top spot despite a slew of cautions for the triumph.

Trey Starks made a late-race pass on Rilat to record the runner-up result with Skylar Gee placing fourth and Casey Adams fifth.

Gee opened the night by setting quick time during qualifying before Rilat, Jared Peterson and Adams each won a heat race. Tom Watts was the B Main winner.

The 61st annual Jim Albert Memorial Gold Cup wraps up on Saturday when the main event pays $4,000 to win.

(Drivers opened the night by qualifying. The fastest qualifier earned 50 points with each subsequent position dropping by one point. Heat races were inverted by six with the heat race winner receiving 50 points and each subsequent position dropping by three points. The top six in combined qualifying and heat race points advanced to the feature redraw and the top 16 to the A Main.)

THE EVENT –

The inaugural NSA Shootout features six total 360ci winged sprint car races – four at Billings Motorsports Park in Billings, Mont., and two at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada – this summer. All races have elevated pay and the event will showcase feature bonuses as well as a points fund.

RACE FORMAT –

All cars will qualify with the fastest qualifier earning 50 points. Each subsequent position drops one point. If there are 32 or more cars there will be split qualifying.

Heat races are inverted by six with the fastest qualifier lining up on the outside of the third row for the first heat race, the second fastest qualifier on the outside of the third row for the second heat race, etc. Heat race winners receive 50 points with each subsequent position dropping three points.

The top six drivers in combined qualifying and heat race points advance into the dash, which will be lined up via a redraw. Drivers ranked seven through 16 are locked into the main event with the B main transferring the top four into the back of the A Main.

POINTS FUND –

A points fund of at least $5,000 is up for grabs. Additional details will be released later.

FEATURE BONUSES –

Any driver who wins three of the six NSA Shootout main events will receive a $1,000 bonus. Four A Main victories nets a $1,500 bonus with five triumphs providing a $2,000 bonus. Sweeping all six races is worth an extra $2,500.
