Angst, Richards & Weiss Sweep At Deer Creek

Spring Valley, MN - May 6, 2017: After a week off due to a weather cancellation, racing resumed at Deer Creek Speedway. A field of 101-cars turned out on a nice night for racing on Tru-Green Lawn Care night at the speedway. The kids earned some money and prizes with a Sandbox Money Drop before the progam got underway.

Twenty-two National Fleet Graphics WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were led to the green by Ryan Goergen and Brad Minske. Goergen took the early lead but a string of early cautions slowed the race. On a restart, fifth starter Mitch Weiss executed a perfect slide job on Goergen to take the lead. Goergen tried to return the favor in turn two but could not pull it off.

The race was plagued by numerous yellow flags, but when the green flag was out the racing was outstanding. Opening night winner Jason Vandekamp started in row five and quickly got to third. Vandekamp stormed past Goergen to second while Dan Wheeler entered the fray to race with Goergen.

On another restart, Garitt Wytaske who started in the 14th spot cruised past Wheeler and Goergen for third. Another caution slowed the pace and on the restart Vandekamp made a bid for the lead. Weiss was up to the task and held on for the win. Wytaske finished in third with Wheeler and Robbie Franklin in the top five.

Another superb field of 21 Adams Graphix WISSOTA Street Stocks rolled out for their 18-lap main event. After issues at the season opener, Danny Richards took off from row one and set an early torrid pace. Steve Holthaus and Mike Blowers tried to keep pace as Blowers worked to second place.
Blake Adams drove from eighth and shot to third behind the leaders. Richards ran the high line while Blowers took the low route with Adams in their tire tracks. Danny Hanson cracked the top five in lap four and Kyle King was also on the move from row six.

Blowers continued to work the low groove and snuck past Richards for the lead on lap 8. A caution on lap nine would bunch the field back together. Blowers maintained the lead as Hanson was up to fourth and King cracked the top five. Adams went after Richards for second on lap 12 and took the spot for one lap.

Blowers went on for his second win of the season and Richards rallied past Adams for the second spot. Adams finished in third while King who started 12th snuck past Hanson to finish in fourth.

Twenty-six Dirt Doctor Trucking USRA B-Mods were led to the green flag by J.T. Wasmund and Brandon Hare. Hare took advantage of his great redraw and bolred away from the pack and took a huge lead over the pack. Wasmund and Trevor Fecht had a very good race for second in the early stages of the race.

A caution on lap six wiped out Hare’s advantage when the race was resumed. Hare took off, but Wasmund hung with him. Jim Chisholm was in the mix with Fecht and Jayden Larson. The car to watch was Dustin Kruse who started 18th and he stormed to sixth on lap 12. One more yellow set up a two lap dash to the finish.

Hare took off and scored the win to make “Hare Nation” a very happy group. Wasmund finished second but unfortunately was tripped up in post-race tech inspection and was disqualified. That moved Jim Chisholm to second and Fecht was third. Kruse’s fine run got him to fourth and Larson was in the top five.

A.J. Hoff was the early leader of the Brauer Roofing WISSOTA Super Stock main event. Jeff Brauer took third and then passed Schatney Sanders for second on lap two. Brauer made quick work of Hoff for the lead and then took off.

Neil Eckhart got past Hoff for second but the car everyone had their eyes on was Tommy Richards. Richards flew on the top side of the track and drove by Sanders for third on lap five. Dan Nissalke followed along and took the fourth position. Richards used the cushion to drive by Eckhart for second on lap eight.

Brauer had a good advantage, but Richards closed in fast. Richards caught and passed Brauer for the lead on lap 12. Richards drove away despite a couple of cautions that brought the field back to him. Richards scored the win with Brauer second. Eckhart finished third and Mike Loomis’ late race efforts netted him fourth and Hoff was fifth.

Joel Alberts and Greg Jensen led the pack to start the 25-lap NAPA Auto care Centers USRA Modified feature. The bottom opened up on the start and Josh Angst stormed to the lead. Brad Waits challenged Alberts for second and Dustin Sorensen was right there with them. Sorensen and Waits got by Alberts and had a tremendous race for second. Angst had checked out up front, but the race behind him was really good. Sorensen was scored second on lap seven but a yellow set up a restart.

The green flew and Sorensen along with Waits drove three wide with Angst through turn two for the lead. Angst used the top side to drive away once again. Jason Cummins moved into the top five and closed in on the lead pack. Sorensen and Waits still waged their battle for second, but Cummins was in the picture on lap 20. A yellow on lap 21 closed things up and brought a good conclusion to the race.

Angst took off and scored his first win of the season. Cummins was able to drive to second in the final laps in a strong run from 10th. Sorensen would up third with Waits in fourth. Joe Horgdal had a very good late race run to crack the top five at the checkered flag.
