Goedert gets first Series win in Miraculous Yankee Triumph

By Anthony Ainslie (Farley, IA) -- Another first-time winner was crowned with the Malvern Bank and Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models Series as the tours headed to Eastern Iowa to 300 Raceway in Farley.

Both tours came together once again as they made their annual trip to Farley for the 44th edition of the Yankee Dirt Track Classic. After the Friday portion of the Classic was rained out, the 2021 race was a one-night only event. The biggest field of cars of the year made the trip to Farley as 43 cars packed the pits for a shot at the massive $10,000 payday.

Bill Leighton Jr. took the pole position for the 50-lap main event while top qualifier Spencer Diercks started on the outside. The opening lap saw a multi-car pileup that involved West Series point leader Tad Pospisil, Charlie McKenna, and four other cars. Pospisil’s and McKenna’s crews made repairs for both drivers to continue on. Pospisil would go on to finish tenth.
The first half of the race was stop and start as multiple yellow flags slowed the race down. In that time, Leighton led the way while Diercks ran second, and Luke Goedert was third. At the lap 15 mark, Diercks caught Leighton and made the pass on him for the lead as the duo came off of turn two.
Another pileup happened with 22 laps to go. A five-car incident on the front stretch took out Charlie McKenna, Josh Leonard, Joel Calahan, Brian Kosiski, and Richie Gustin. Fortunately, all drivers were uninjured, but their races were done.

When racing resumed, Diercks led with Luke Goedert running second. The race took another twist in the closing laps. With 13 laps remaining, Diercks’ car dropped a cylinder while running in the lead. The Davenport native ran out the final laps with only seven cylinders, but it was with only eight laps to go when Luke Goedert made the go-ahead move for the race lead.

From there, it was Goedert up front at the right place at the right time. The Guttenberg, Iowa driver went on to score the biggest win of his career. Goedert became the 40th different winner with the Malvern Bank and Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models Series and the 27th different Yankee Dirt Classic Champion.

Diercks muscled his car to finish second while Bill Leighton Jr. took third. Todd Cooney worked his way to the fourth position, and Kyle Berck rounded out the top five. Defending Race Winner Jason Rauen battled back from making repairs to finish sixth while East Series Point Leader Justin Kay charged from 20th to finish seventh.

In the next round for the Malvern Bank and Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models Series, both tours come together again for the invitation only race at the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. After that, it is an eastern Iowa tripleheader on September 23rd-25th with trips to Dubuque, West Liberty and Davenport. Finally, the tours finish out the season on October 1st and 2nd at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska.
