David Rogers To Run his 33rd Snowball Derby Today

Story by Speed51.com

Traditionally, the Snowball Derby field consists of 36 starters unless the most recent winner of the event fails to qualify, such as when Christian Eckes utilized the past champion’s provisional in 2017.  This year, a special exception will be made for a special racer to enter the field in the 37th starting position.

Five Flags Speedway will honor Florida legend David Rogers with the Derby Dedication Award, and with it a provisional starting spot in the 52nd Annual Snowball Derby presented by BJ’s Wholesale Club.

Rogers has made 32 previous starts in the Snowball Derby.  With Sunday’s start, he will break a tie with Red Farmer for most starts in the event.  The record-breaking start comes in a year where Rogers overcame lymphoma.  The Snowball Derby will be Rogers’ first race since beating cancer.

“David’s Snowball Derby dedication has been unmatched in the history of this race,â€? said Five Flags Speedway owner Tim Bryant.  â€œWe felt like being in this race served as real motivation for David in his battle with cancer this year, and we wish him the best of luck in today’s race.â€?

Rogers will start 37th for the 300-lap Super Late Model race featuring the best Late Model racers in North America.  Pre-race festivities begin at noon, with driver introductions at 1:15 p.m.  At 2:00 p.m., the Snowball Derby begins, starting the 300-lap battle to see who will join the record books as a winner of the marquee event.

Race fans unable to attend the Snowball Derby can watch live on Speed51.  Click here for video ticket information.
