Rapid Speedway

Three wide all night long!

With absolutely gorgeous weather the races at Rapid Speedway went off without a hitch! As the gates opened a little before six Friday evening, people started pouring into the facilities. The track was heavy and wide for the heat races, intended for the racers to go three wide! Three wide is exactly what the very excited fans were treated to as they cheered on their favorite driver in each class.
After a brief intermission so the fans could re-stock their beverage choice, the Hobbies kicked off the mains. With three wide racing continuing into the feature event the competitors were door to door bumper to bumper until the number 12k of Kyle Timmerman got upside down, forcing out the red flag. Timmerman was fine, his ride, needed some work. He made it to the feature but was unable to continue after more problems. After more racing and jockeying for position, it was Dereck VanDerBrink in the #2 taking home the win! Congratulations Dereck and your team!
Next on the track were the B-Mods. With action throughout the pack, it was the 84 of Cody Ahrendt pacing the field, with Colter Deutsch in the 5 coming forward, and with 5 laps to go nabbed the lead on the inside. With two laps to go the 11k of Darrin Korthals seemed to come out of nowhere and powered around the high side to take the lead from the 5. Korthals started deep in the pack in 12th and drove under the checkers first to make it two in a row at Rapid Speedway. Congratulations to the 11k team, impressive driving Darrin!
The Stock Cars were on deck during all the B-mod action, and were not going to disappoint. The action followed suit with three wide racing for the opening laps. With only one caution early on in the race, it was a great race with the leaders dicing it out till the end. When the checkers flew, it was the 04 of Roger Verdoom taking the win! Congratulations Roger and your team on your victory!
The wingless warriors took to the track, after a couple of tries to get a good lap in and a red flag, the races got under way, with the number 4 of Eric Schulz jumping out to a comfortable lead. The man on the move was Bret Mellenbrendt in the #97. After a restart with 5 laps to go the top spot was up for grabs with a four car battle. When the dust cleared, it was Mellenberndt on top. Congratulations to the 97 team for going two in a row!
The racing action was fast and furious and the crowd was electric! Join us next week at 8p.m. for the third installment at Rapid Speedway. Tickets are $9 for adults, $2 for 6 -12, and free under 6! The Speedway Bar will be open before and during the races! We will see you at the races!!!
