OWENS BREAKS STREAK, BATES, BURGER AND DAVIS STRIKE AGAIN, STEPHENSON SCORES FIRST WIN OF 2016

TULSA, Okla. (August 15, 2016) – Jimmy Owens breaks career long streak, while Devin Bates, Leroy Burger, and Chad Davis score repeat wins, while David Stephenson scores his first win of 2016.

It was an action packed evening in the Factory Stock division A-Feature, with Jimmy Owens coming out on top, snapping a 4 year winless streak. Multiple yellow flags plagued the 15 lap main event, with a few cars not able to complete the race. Chris Bales found himself in an early lead after starting on the pole, with Dalton Garrison closely in tail, until the caution came out on lap 8 for Garrison coming to a stop in turn 3. That moved Toby Cooper and Bobby Wolfe into the top 3 for the restart. A crash going into turn 1 involving Bales, Wolfe and Garrison brought out what was to be the last caution of the race. Those three drivers were unable to restart due to damages from the crash. It appeared that Cooper would go on to win the race, until a last lap, last corner pass made by Owens would find him taking the checkered flag after a drag race coming out of turn 4. Tate Green and Keith Davis finished third and fourth.

David Stephenson earned his first win of the 2016 season after starting 8th in the 25-lap Sprint Car A-Feature. Keith Bolton checked out to an early lead, followed by James Esmond and Frank Taft. As they break away from the pack, that would give Stephenson a chance to gain a few positions before the caution would wave on lap 7 for a few cars coming to a stop in turn 1. As the field lined back up for the restart, it would move Stephenson into the third position. The race would go on with Bolton leading until another yellow flag flew for a car stopped at the bottom of turn 2 on lap 14. Stephenson then found himself in the second position after passing Esmond on lap 11. Stephenson took advantage of a restart to make the pass on Bolton on lap 15. Stephenson would go on to win the feature with Zach Alley, Johnny Kent, Kevin Brewer and Brian McClelland would round out the top 5.

Chad Davis made his way to victory lane after troubles on the opening lap. Davis was involved in a 5-car pile-up going into turn 2 on the opening lap. Davis would rally back after restarting at the tail end of the restart on lap 4 after making a pass on early race leader Justin Cartwright. Point leader Colin Wisely would finish in 3rd place, while Joe Wright and Brandon Dean would round out the top 5.

Devin Bates takes home his 2nd win for the season in the 20 lap Dwarf Car main event. Bates took advantage of an opening lap restart to pass Charly Gonzales, who started on the pole to lead the race from lap 2. After a multiple car crash on the opening lap, saw points leader Todd Reynolds unable to finish the race. Paul York and Larry Pense would find themselves in the top 3 by lap 5, while Jorge Chacon and Rob McQuary would make the pass on Gonzales and Sam Champlain on lap 12 to round out the top 5. Willie Rice was the biggest mover of the race, starting in 18th place, and finishing in the top 10, coming to the checkered flag in 9thplace.

Leroy Burger won his 3rd Mini Stock division race for the 2016 season after an early battle with Jimmy Masterson. Wesley Knebel raced past Masterson on lap 4 to continue to finish in the runner-up spot. Masterson was looking at a top-5 finish, until he spun his car in turn 2, bringing out the only yellow flag during the race. Philip Stewart raced his way to a 3rd place finish, while Austin Timmons and Richard Shipley made their way into the top 5 of the 15-lap main event.

Our next race will feature the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars Freedom Tour, along with the Lucas Oil POWRi Midgets and Creek County Speedway’s Dwarf Car division this Thursday night, August 18th. Gates open at 5PM, with hot laps at 7:30 and racing starting at 8PM.
