Wampler Wrangles Podium Finish at Lawton for Second Straight Week

Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (Aug. 11, 2015) – Cody Wampler captured his second straight podium finish at Lawton Speedway last Saturday.

“After you win a race third isn’t quite as good, but we’ll take it,” he joked.

Wampler maneuvered from fifth to third place during a heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the 20-lap main event.

“I didn’t really go anywhere at the start,” he said. “Then I got going and I passed four cars in one corner to go from sixth to second. There were a couple of cars who got bottled up going into the top. I was able to get by them so that was our big move to pass a few cars around Lap 7 or 8.”

Wampler maintained second place for several laps before a restart just after the midpoint of the feature.

“I ran second for a little bit,” he said. “We had a caution and I knew the guy behind me was decent. On the restart I couldn’t get the momentum and he had a pretty good run on me and slid in front of me going into turn one.”

Wampler held onto third for the remainder of the race to earn his fourth top five of the season.

“The car is running good,” he said. “We’re past the mechanical issues and we’re fine-tuning our setup for different scenarios. It’s pretty exciting going into the last couple months of the season.”

Wampler will return to action this Saturday at Lawton Speedway.
