Blurton Overcomes Illness to Post Pair of Top 10s

Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (June 13, 2018) – Zach Blurton overcame heat exhaustion and he passed a lot of sprint cars along the way to post a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend.

In fact, during the past five events Blurton hasn’t finished outside of the top nine.

“It’s been very hot and humid out here and I got pretty sick,” he said. “In fact, after Friday’s race we got a motel and I told my wife I was done racing for the weekend. I felt horrible. But I got a good night’s sleep and felt a lot better Saturday morning.

“We’ve been running very well and this past weekend we got our new shocks and I couldn’t be more pleased with how the car performed.”

Blurton scored a seventh-place finish on Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo. A day later he passed a lot of cars to place eighth at Eagle Raceway.

“On Saturday the heat lineups were based on average points and since we didn’t have enough races we had to start last,” he said. “It rained after hot laps so there was no passing in the heat. In the B Main the previous week’s winner started 10th and I started 11th. I got some breaks with crashes and mechanical issues for cars in front of me and we finished second. We were definitely hooked up. I was fifth with three laps to go and ran the top of turns three and four and really got going. My fastest lap was 13.8 seconds and the winner’s fastest lap was 14.7.”

Blurton then charged from 18th to eighth in the A Main.

“We passed a lot of cars Saturday,” he said. “With the new shocks I was a bit timid to make big changes or adjustments. If I had just taken out some stagger I think we had a top-five car.”

Blurton will travel to Dodge City Raceway in Dodge City, Kan., this weekend for the Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP Sprint Car Nationals. The event will bring in top contenders from throughout the region to battle for the hefty 305ci sprint car purse with the largest cut of at least $3,000 going to Saturday night’s feature winner. The winner’s loot could total as much as $4,500 with lap money in play.

Blurton posted a pair of fourth-place finishes during his last appearances at Dodge City Raceway on May 19 and May 26.

“We’ve had great speed at Dodge City,” he said. “I’m eager to see what we can do with this new shock package.”

The event is sanctioned by the United Rebel Sprint Series. Blurton is currently tied for fourth in the series standings.
