(Kansas City, Kansas) The 2020 season soldiered on Friday evening as 78 drivers and teams signed in for Racing on the River’s Edge. Among drivers on hand were 12 A-Mods, 19 B-Mods, 9 Pure Stocks, 15 Stock Cars, 8 Grand Nationals, and 15 E-Mods raced their way on to the starting grids for the night’s main events.

During the Metro Pawn and Metro Metals race program, there were 13 preliminary heat races contested to set the lineups for the five main events to close the night.

A-Mod Recap, Heat Races: Mark Dotson outdueled Randal Schiffelbein, Jr., for the heat one victory with Justin Johnson besting Sam Florence during heat two. Dotson and Johnson earned the front row positions for the night’s 15-lap main event. In recent weeks, Justin Johnson’s 2020 season has picked up a head of steam, which kept on rolling this night as he took his fourth win of the year in the A-Mod main. Pole-sitter Dotson captured runner-up honors with Schiffelbein in third. Tim Karrick’s return to action was successful with his fourth place run while point’s leader Tyler Hibner completed the top five.

B-Mod Recap, Heat Races: Luke Nieman captured the opening B-Mod win with Tim Powell second. Patrick Royalty advanced from third to take the heat two victory ahead of Andy Bryant while Trevor Hunt bested Nick Newton for the final heat victory. Tops in passing points to take front-row honors for the 15-lap A-Main were Royalty and Nieman. Over the years, Patrick Royalty has experienced his ups and downs at Lakeside Speedway but this night was a definite up as he captured third victory of the season to extend his point’s lead over Nieman, who finished outside of the top five. Powell advanced to second ahead of Newton, Trevor Hunt, and multiple-time winner Andy Bryant inside the top five.

Stock Car Recap, Heat Races: Jaylen Wettengel captured the first Stock Car heat race over Tim Shields with David Oxford taking the heat two win over Steve Herrick. Feature: Wettengel and Oxford earned the row-one starting positions for the 15-lap feature. Heading into this week, only Brett Heeter had captured three main events in the Stock Cars, but Gary Donaldson added his name to that stat as he kept his recent hot streak alive by taking his third Lakeside win of the year over current point’s leader Tim Shields in second while Heeter was unable to finish the event. Wettengel finished third with Nick Whalen and Tracy Schaefer finishing the top five.

E-Mod Recap, Heat Races: Steven Makar topped Brian Andrews for the heat one victory with fifth-starting Trevor Hand making his way to first to take heat two over Paul Lanfermann. Feature: Front row starters for the 15-lap main event were Mike Richardson and Makar. Heading into the night’s action, Makar had a one-point advantage over Rodney Schweizer as the pair continued their battle for the championship once again. Makar came away the victor on this night, capturing his fifth victory of the season with Schweizer second, Hand third, Lanfermann fourth, and Andrews fifth.

Grand Nationals Recap, Heat Races: Jason Park and Don Marrs shared heat race honors for the Grand Nationals and shared the front row for the 10-lap Grand National main event. Even though Park hasn’t been out every week the Grand Nationals have been present, he has been the dominant car this year and once again proved too strong for the rest of the field for his fourth victory of the season. Point’s leader Kling came away the runner-p with Donnie Brown, Steven Dibben, and Larry Ferris completing the top five.

Pure Stock Recap, Heat Races: Garry Billings, Jr. and Leroy Morrison were heat race winners for Pure Stock competition and began the night’s 10-lap main event leading the field to the initial green flag. Morrison ultimately prevailed for his first feature win of the year in an upset victory over point’s leader Billings, who settled for second. Jewett was third with Eric Risley and Matt Janes rounding out the top five.
