Inside Line Promotions – KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Aug. 17, 2014) – Alex Bright enjoyed a season-best weekend when he scored a pair of feature victories and earned a trio of podium finishes.

“It’s definitely the best weekend so far,” he said. “I hope to top it throughout the rest of the year. We were just on point with everything and didn’t make any mistakes. To get two wins in a row in the midget, at Williams Grove and Lincoln, I’m speechless about this weekend.”

Bright sandwiched the ARDC Midgets wins between a pair of micro sprint events at Action Track USA, starting last Wednesday when he won his heat race driving for Greg Stevens. Bright then advanced from sixth to third place in a wild main event.

“The feature was definitely interesting,” he said. “The track was real rough and that definitely played out. Throughout the whole race the first and second-place cars never ran away, but they were faster than me. It was whoever could get through the ruts the best and not make any mistakes. The type of car we had is a lot better on smooth, heavy tracks. It ended up being real rough, dry and rutty.”

Bright tackled Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Friday. After finishing second to his brother in a heat race, Bright earned a spot in the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 2 to start the 20-lap main event on the outside of the front row.

“We adjusted some things and got the car a little better,” he said. “We took off on the top side of the track and never looked back. When you’re out in the lead you’re not sure how close anybody is. I ran it hard the whole race and beat the second-place car by 11.9 seconds. We were cruising.”

Bright’s win, which he said was the most dominant of his career, was his fourth with the ARDC Midgets of the season.

Saturday ended with Bright in a similar position at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. However, it was a much different route to get there. After charging from sixth to second place in his heat race, Bright drew the No. 6 in the feature redraw to line up on the outside of the third row for the 25-lap main event.

“The bottom and middle of the track slicked up and it had a pretty good cushion,” he said. “On the start I got boxed in and didn’t get around anybody. I tried the top early on and couldn’t get rolling. I think I dropped back to 10th or so. Once I found the bottom I slowly started working my way through. I looked at the scoreboard with only 10 laps to go and I said I’m going to try the top again and get rolling or go straight to the back. I wasn’t going to settle for fifth.”

Bright found a fast line around the top of the track and after advancing into third place with a caution on Lap 20, he took advantage once the leaders were bunched up.

“With about five laps to go I was lapping a car and his oil line blew right in front of me,” he said. “I just squeezed by between him and the wall. It helped me that the caution came out. I got a really good restart and going into the first turn (the top two drivers) both went to the bottom and I went to the top and never looked back.”

Bright took the lead exiting turn two on the restart and powered to his 10th feature victory of the season.

The busy weekend concluded on Sunday at Action Track USA, where Bright maneuvered from eighth to sixth place during his heat race on the slimy track. That relegated him to the B Main, which he won to earn a transfer into the back of the main event. He then rallied from 22nd to an 11th-place finish, which was one spot away from extending his eight-race streak of top 10s.

“We just missed the setup and had the wrong tire on,” he said. “I didn’t think it was going to be that slick. It actually rubbered up and we had a soft tire on. I wasn’t disappointed, but I’m not happy with it.”

Bright will be off this weekend before tackling the next ARDC Midgets event on Aug. 31 at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa.
