Inside Line Promotions – GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (May 22, 2017) – Sammy Swindell is heading to Colorado this weekend for the first time in many years.

Swindell will drive for A.G. Rains this Saturday at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan and Sunday at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader.

“It’s been a while,” he said. “It’s really scenic and it’s different with the mountains. It was always a nice place to visit. One year Amy and I drove out early and we spent four or five days out there doing some things.”

Swindell said he has won in a non-wing sprint car, midget and a winged sprint car in the state. He was victorious during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event at Rocky Mountain Speedway in Commerce City on July 4, 1995. He raced at that track several times and he competed with the World of Outlaws at Colorado National Speedway in Erie, Colo., a handful of times as well in the 1970s and 1980s.

“We first went out there in 1976 or 1977,” he said. “It was non-wing stuff then. We won in the Bobby Davis car. I have a couple of midget wins, too. The first midget race I ever ran was out there and I won that.”

The duo of Swindell and Rains, which has earned three top 10s this season, was scheduled to compete at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., last Saturday during the Hooker Hood Classic. However, the event was rained out for the second straight week.

“We made some changes and it’s definitely going to be better,” Swindell said. “I don’t see any reason for us not to be back up there running up front. The new motor is done, which is almost the same as the one we were running last year. They made some improvements to the one we were running to make it closer to the one we raced with last year. A lot has been happening, but with all these rains outs we haven’t been able to race.”
