Skylar Gee Rebounds With Top 10 To Kick Off ASCS Speedweek

Bryan Hulbert – AMARILLO, Texas (June 11, 2018) Back on the road with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Skylar Gee kicked off his Speedweek run with overall positive results for the Carlan Services No. 99 team as the team rebounded for a Top 10 finish.

“Overall it wasn’t a bad weekend, had a couple issues but we figured out what was going on and moved forward for the most part,” commented Gee.

While Friday night at West Texas Raceway didn’t start the way Skylar had hoped, the No. 99 was able to move forward in the A-Feature from the final row to 15th.

“We had some issues with the car in Hot Laps that put us behind. Ended up being an issue with the fuel system, and luckily, we were able to fix it but it didn’t leave us any time to make adjustments for the Heat Race. In the Feature, we got rolling and started passing cars but once I got a lap down, that slowed me up, but otherwise, it was way better than where we started.”

Moving to Route 66 Motor Speedway, whatever fueling issues that troubled Skylar the night before were gone. Waiting out a rain delay, Gee started the night with a dominating Heat Race win.

“We were really good in the Heat Race. The track was still a little greasy, but the car felt good.”

High Point after the Heats, Skylar drew sixth for the lineup in the A-Feature where he would end up finishing the night with a ninth-place finish.

“We freed the car up a bunch for the Main, but it just wasn’t enough. I was still okay, but the restarts would kill me. Without the wing speed, the car would wash up the track and that left the door up for guys to get a run on me down the back straightaway, but we’ll keep digging and be ready for the rest of Speedweek.”

Looking to this week’s lineup, Skylar will be in action at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Tuesday, June 12, followed by Lawton Speedway (Lawton, Okla.) on Wednesday, June 13, Creek County Speedway (Sapulpa, Okla.) on Thursday, June 14, and Salina Speedway (Salina, Kan.), on Saturday, June 16.
