Blurton Wraps Up Second Straight URSS Championship

Inside Line Promotions – OBERLIN, Kan. (Aug. 23, 2018) – Zach Blurton scored a pair of top-five finishes last weekend to wrap up his second consecutive United Rebel Sprint Series title.

“I think the worst we finished with the URSS was a pair of 11th-place results and one was because of a blown motor and the other there were 51 cars there,” he said. “We only had two wins this year, but the majority were top-five finishes. I’m very happy with the how the season went. If just a couple of little things went our way we would have a bunch of wins and I need to correct some of my mistakes to fix that.”

Blurton won his heat race to kick off the action last Friday at Stockton Speedway in Stockton, Kan. He started fourth in the feature.

“I got up to third right away and basically stayed there the entire race,” he said.

The following day he ventured to Oberlin Speedway, where Blurton charged from fourth to win his heat.

“We have been very good all year in our heats, but seem to lose a little something in the feature,” he said. “We had a bunch of restarts. On the second one I had passed for second when it came back. When we got going I fell into fourth and just stayed there.

“We weren’t terrible all weekend, we’re just missing some speed somewhere and we need to figure it out.”

Blurton with compete at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., the next two weekends.

“We will head there this Saturday to get some laps in and obtain information to gain some speed and prepare for the big RaceSaver Nationals the following weekend,” he said. “The last time we were at Eagle we came from deep in the B Main to an eighth-place A-Main finish.”
