Blurton Records Runner-Up Result During Season Opener at LoneStar Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – KILGORE, Texas (Feb. 23, 2015) – Zach Blurton kicked off his 2015 season on the right foot last Saturday.

Blurton earned a podium finish during a RaceSaver Sprint Series event at LoneStar Speedway for the LoneStar Sprint Smackdown.

“I feel really good about that,” he said. “The track was real wet and it was hammer down. We could have done a few other things to be faster, but I’m happy about our finish.”

Blurton opened the event by charging from sixth to third place during a heat race around the 3/8-mile oval.

“That was getting the rust knocked off,” he said. “I was getting comfortable with myself. For a couple of laps we were trying to get used to everything again. I had a good car.”

That lined him up on the outside of the second row for the 25-lap main event.

“In the first five laps there were three cautions and then the last 20 went green to checkered,” he said. “We got strung out there. I got stuck behind a lapped car and the brakes weren’t working too good so the top two got away from me.”

Blurton, who advanced from fourth to third place following an early restart, began to reel in the top two in the closing laps.

“Coming to the white flag the lead cars caught each other,” he said. “The eventual winner slid the leader. They got all tangled up. I don’t know how neither of them got a knocked out front end or a flat tire. I got to their back bumpers and was waiting for something to break, but it never happened. We actually ended up third, but the winner was disqualified for being light at the scales.”

Blurton was scored as the runner up in his first race since the end of last September.

His next competition will be in March during a weekly 305 event at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas.
