Sukup, Iverson, Thome, Olmstead Capture Win Big At Doc Palmer Memorial

ALBION, NE- Boone County Raceway was in action Friday with the Doc Palmer Memorial and what a night it was. In front of a spectacular crowd, a full pit of drivers competed for an increased pay day.

The feature racing began in the Sharp Plumbing IMCA Sport Modifieds where Spalding's Robbie Thome jumped out to the early lead after starting on the pole. Coming into the night trailing David Johnson for the points lead by 1 point, Thome was able to lead from start to finish to pick up his first win at BCR in 2021 and a $645 pay day. The win put Thome to the top of the points standings. James Roebuck of Genoa would finish 2nd after starting 8th, David Johnson of Columbus finished 3rd, Lukas Pohlman of Aurora 4th, and Nofolk's Tyler Afrank rounded out the top 5 after starting 9th.

Next up would be the Big Daddy Race Car IMCA Stock Cars competing in a 25 lap race for $645. Albion's Jacob Anson would take the lead early in his debut in the stock car for 2021. The 13J would lead the majority of the event but it was a late restart with under 5 laps left that would see another Albion native Tyler Iverson grab the lead from Anson. Iverson would hold off pressure from Anson to score his 2nd win of the season. Anson would finish 2nd, Norton, KS runner Casey Woken finished 3rd. Cameron Wilkinson of Neligh would fight his way to a 4th place finish after starting 12th, while defending track champion Austin Brauner of Platte Center would round out the top 5.

The Big Daddy Race Car IMCA Hobby Stocks were next competing for $445 to the winner. It was Nate Desive of O'Neill taking the lead on lap one but it was Overton's Zach Olmstead who would grab the lead early and make his way through lap traffic late to hold off a start field for the win. The action behind Olmstead was hot and heavy all night with 2 and 3 wide racing for most of the 20 lap feature including battles between, Nate Desive, Albion's Ryan Fajman, Neligh's Jason Wilkinson, and Columbus' Sal Hernandez. Hernandez who started 10th would work his way to a 2nd place finish, Wilkinson 3rd, Fajman 4th, and Desive 5th.

The final feature of the night came in the NAPA Auto and Truck Parts IMCA Late Model who competed for $1,045 to the winner. It was Norfolk's Ben Sukup that would take the early lead but would have challenges from York's Cory Dumpert, and Madison's Travis Dickes throughout the 25 lap feature. But on this night Sukup would run a smooth race to grab his first win of the season at BCR and the big check. Travis Dickes would finish 2nd after starting 11th, Kyle Praune of Norfolk would come all the way from 18th to finish 3rd and grab the $500 hard charger award. Matt Haase of Norfolk would finish 4th and Chase Osborne of Norfolk 5th.

Boone County Raceway will be back in action next Friday, June 11th with Firemen Appreciation Night. Tickets are on-sale now at boonecountyraceway.com.
