Despite Wet Weather In The Region Southern Oregon Speedway Completes June 18th Event
White City, Oregon- Saturday, June 18th would be race day at Southern Oregon Speedway despite the previous evening’s events being washed away by rain. It was a full card of classes at the Jackson County facility that included Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Dwarf Cars, Outlaw Pro Stocks, and Sport Compacts.
Jake Wheeler scored his second straight victory in the Sprint Car division at Southern Oregon Speedway this year. It was the Central Point chauffeur’s first win since May 21st. Roseburg’s Steven Snawder and Bailey Hibbard, of Medford, were second and third. Camden Robustelli, from Medford, captured fourth over fifth finishing Dave Hibbard, another Medford motorist.
Roseburg traveler Brendan McMaster topped the podium for the Dwarf Car feature. It is the first occasion that he has bested the field in 2022. Fellow Roseburg racers R.C. Levin and Erin Morganstern were behind him in second and third place. Camden Robustelli, pulling double duty ended the night fourth while Crescent City, California pilot Colby Bergquist earned fifth.
The IMCA Modified were a last-minute addition to the card on June 18th. Jesse Williamson, from Coburg, was first at the line when the checkered flag waved to win his first main event on the season. Central Point’s Jesse Bailey was second while Mark Wauge, of Medford, was third. Bakersfield, California teenager Troy Morris III was fourth over Creswell veteran Paul Culp.
The IMCA Northern SportMods were also a late addition to the program. Matt Sanders bested the field to earn his first SOS triumph of the new year. It is the fourth different track that the Brookings native has won at this season. Oakley, California driver Chester Kniss beat out Cory Biggs, of Yreka, California for second. Yreka, California standout Ethan Killingsworth and Steven Sanders, from Brookings, were fourth and fifth in the finishing order.
Matt Harlow of Medford took care of business in the Outlaw Pro Stock division. James Flowers, from Klamath Falls, was second while Etna, California driver Darek Alford earned third. Klamath Falls’ Scott Flowers took home fourth while Johnny Cobb, of Midland, was fifth.
Lastly, the Sport Compacts were also in competition. Dexter driver Barry Cannon got the job done by willing the main event. Cottage Grove’s Kerry Cooper and Brad Lenz, of Shady Cove, were second and third. Bruce Miller, from Oakland, and Yreka, California chauffeur Kennie Jones were fourth and fifth.
