Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 12, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi will return to his family team this weekend for a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader.

Scelzi is scheduled to drive the No. 41s on Friday and Saturday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., during the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown. He earned a fifth-place finish at the half-mile oval during his debut there last year.

“I’m excited to get back home and run for our family team this weekend,” he said. “It will be fun to race in front of some family and friends at Calistoga. I had a good debut there and I feel like I’ve had a good season racing in the Midwest so hopefully that transitions into two good nights this weekend.”

Scelzi is coming off a busy week. He piloted a midget for Jerome Rodela a week ago Wednesday and Thursday at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Ind., during the Driven 2 Save Lives BC 39 with the USAC P1 National Midget Series. Scelzi advanced from ninth to seventh place during a heat race on Wednesday and from ninth to fourth place in a qualifier on Thursday. However, all main events except the A Main were cancelled because of a curfew following a lengthy rain delay on Thursday.

“We were buried by the draw in our heat race and did the best we could given the circumstances,” he said. “The qualifier went much better and I think we could have continued moving forward if we had an opportunity to race in a feature, but everyone was dealt a tough hand by the wet weather. There were more than 100 drivers there so it was a fun event to compete in.”

Scelzi returned to the familiar Indy Race Parts backed sprint car owned by Bernie Stuebgen on Friday at Port Royal Speedway for the opening night of the Tuscarora 50. Scelzi qualified second quickest in his group to open the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions event, which featured approximately 50 competitors. He then placed fifth in a heat race to lock into the main event. Unfortunately, a mechanical problem sidelined the team early in the night.

The Tuscarora 50 then rained out on Saturday following qualifying and Sunday’s rain date was also washed out. The event has been postponed to late October.

“It was unfortunate that rain played such a big factor in both events in Indianapolis and Central Pennsylvania,” Scelzi said. “I had fun when I was able to race and hopefully we will have two good nights of competition with good weather this weekend.”
