Continued Streak for Dobmeier…

The Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports #13 with pilot Mark Dobmeier put the Senske & Son Delta Oil sprint car in victory lane for the third time in a row this past Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. With the tracks format for lineups placing the high point average drivers’ to the rear of the heat for the starts set Mark on the tail of the heat race to start out the night at. He made his way up to 5th which set him on the outside of row number five for the main event. “The track was pretty slick in the heat,” explains Mark, “I tried to run up top to get some momentum to make some faster laps, but there just wasn’t enough to grab a hold of.”
Mark has started in the back half of the field a time or two on the high banked 4/10ths dirt oval, so starting tenth did not worry the veteran driver. He followed the number 9 car of Wade Nygaard through the field throughout the first 15 laps of the 25 lap contest and then around ten to go, Mark took the lead and set his eyes on the checkered. Dobmeier won the event with Nygaard coming in second.
Following the win at River Cities, the Lunstra/Dobmeier team loaded up and headed to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa for the hopes of making a solid qualifying run and finishing the main in their much desired top five. Every week the #13 gets a little better at their qualifying efforts and this past Saturday at the historic half mile, “Dynamite” Dobmeier made the fastest lap around the track against some of the best in the business and qualified with a 14.784 which was what the team has been working for all season. “The car was perfect for that qualifying run,” says the proud North Dakota native, “Our whole team has been wanting that top qualifying spot all year down here and with all the work the guys’ put into the car, I was finally able to give that to them. I can’t thank them enough!”
Mark started 6th in the heat and needed to make the top five for the invert into the main event, but after passing Kerry Madsen and attempting the pass on Lynton Jeffery, the right front tire got packed full of mud creating such a vibration in the Senske & Son Delta Oil #13 that Mark was overtaken by the “Mad Man” Kerry Madsen and had to settle just outside the top five and miss the transfer. Finishing 6th in the heat race put Mark on the pole of the “B” next to Johnny Herrera. Dobmeier won the “B” which set him up for a 16th place starting position in the main.
“The car worked very well all night,” explains Mark, “It was kind of frustrating not making the invert in the heat race and having to run the ‘B’, but we put together some very consistent laps in the main and finishing where we did makes all of us pretty happy.” Mark drove from way back in the 16th spot all the way up to 6th, capping off the evening.
Huset’s Speedway was forced to cancel their event the following night, so Lunstra/Dobmeier Motorsports will be running double features next Sunday the 14th of June to make up the previous week’s rain shortened event. Next up for the team will be River Cities this coming Friday followed by Knoxville Raceway on Saturday and ending the weekend at Huset’s with the double features.
