Randy was born with a passion to race. He started drag racing while in high school at the stadium in San Diego and at the Orange County Raceway. By 1983, he was working with Chuck Beal and his BB funny-car and then started working with Chess Bushey and Gene Adams with an A fuel dragster. In 1988, Randy entered the IHBA drag boat racing circuit and went on to win the World Finals. In 1989, he continued to race with IHBA where he won the World Championship again! The winning streak continued as he repeated again in 1990. In 1991, Randy moved up one classification where he won the season opener and then retired from drag boat racing. He continues to hold a number of records in his classification. In 1997 Randy opened his own automotive service company, R.A.E., An Automotive Service Co., Inc, which is a thriving business in Ramona, California. In 1998 Randy entered the world of Mini-sprints, racing mainly at the local dirt track. He quickly moved up the ranks, winning races and a trophy dash and main event. In 2000 and 2001 Randy continued to race Mini-sprints, and until an untimely crash, was ranked as the fifth driver out of 40 participants. Needing to make a decision to repair or replace his Mini-sprint car, Randy decided to move up to the World of Outlaws, the premier racing category for Sprint Cars.
