Emma Indoor Raceway in Emma, Missouri hosted the third event of their winter series this past weekend where KC Sparks was among a class of 7 box stock drivers present for competition.
Sparks had what turned out to be a lucky draw at sign in, pulling the #13 chip. This lined him up to the outside of the front row alongside Sierra Rose Gary. At the start of the heat race, Sparks got a good start around Gary but it was called back and a single file line up was used. Gary grabbed the lead from Sparks as the lead duo yarded the field. Gary continued to pace Sparks with the DRE #1 pulling to her inside but failing to take the point as she motored into the turns. As the white flag flew on the heat, Gary caught the lapped kart of Riley Dawson and after chasing him down the backstretch, hesitated just enough for Sparks to capitalize and move to her inside through the last set of turns. Sparks claimed the heat win with Gary a close second. Brogan Carder just edged Alex Yoerger for third.
Using the passing points system at the track, Sparks earned the pole position alongside Carder to pace the 20 lap event. On the initial start, Sparks jumped to the lead with Carder and Bentley Long moving their outside lane ahead of Gary but a spin in the back of the pack forced a complete restart, single file.
The next start gave Sparks the lead with Carder and Gary in the top three. Long was challenging for the podium position when he overdrove into turn one, making contact with the Gary kart and bringing out the caution. Sparks maintained the point while Carder was focusing on hitting his marks while holding off Gary to stay within striking distance.
In the back of the field, Yoerger was comfortably in fourth with an intense battle between Micah Haugan and Long fighting for position. The field was slowed once more just as Sparks and Brogan were starting to work lapped traffic when the Haugan, Long battle got hooked together coming out of turn two.
For the final restart, Sparks got another great start but so did Gary as she challenged Carder for second on the track. Carder slipped high out of turn two and Gary slid to his inside down the back and into the runner up position going into turn three but she couldn’t hold the line and Carder executed a crossover to reclaim second place at the line. The lengthy green flag run allowed for Sparks to build up a comfortable lead, winning by ¼ lap over Carder, Gary, Yoerger, Long, Haugan, and Dawson.
