The first weekend in June

This weekend started off with Eric racing his non-wing sprinter in Rock Rapids IA on Friday night. The night started off rough. After starting the car to put heat in the motor, Eric looked down to see a large pool of power steering oil at his feet and it was apparent that a new pump was needed. The crew went to work on swapping pumps right away and got Eric out on the track just in time for his heat race. Eric came from 5th to 3rd.
Next up was the feature, Ricochet was starting deep in the field on the inside of row 5. The track was wide and slick with the main groove on the bottom, “I wasn’t making any time down on the bottom and after I saw one car go around me on the top, I figured I would give it a try as well.” Stated Eric. The number 4 machine would make up time in turns 1 and 2, but lose it in 3 and 4. “At the end of the night, I realized that I should have just took what I could on the bottom.” Eric finished in 10th.
Sunday was next on the racing calendar when Eric and the team would bring his 410 winged Outlaw Sprinter for the first time to the famed Husets Speedway near his hometown of Sioux Falls SD. “I was very excited and nervous to come to Husets, I grew up watching the racing out here, and knew that I would be going up against the area’s best and fastest at a track that eats cars on a nightly basis.” Ricochet strapped in for his first ever qualifying effort in a 410 Sprint and laid down a 12:37.
Eric started his heat race on the poll but wound up in fifth by the time the checkers fell, however he did not give up his positions very easily. While pulling in to his pit stall, a large trail of oil could be seen spewing from his vent tube on the dry-sump tank. The crew tried to figure out the problem before the feature, but could not come up with a quick solution. Eric hit the track in 15th and raced up to 13th in a hurry but under the second caution, his oil pressure gauge was reading that it was time to retire for the night.
Work started on Monday to pull the engine out and find the issues that ale it. You can keep up to date with the latest news by following Ricochet Racing on Facebook at facebook.com/ericschulzracing, and check out the new photos on the website, www.ericschulzracing.com.
