Henderson and BDS kick off 2017 with a pair of podium finishes in ASCS competition

Dupo, IL (March 19, 2017) After a long winter break and a lot of hard work preparing to take on the ASCS National tour in 2017, BDS Motorsports and driver, Justin Henderson, showed this weekend that they will be serious contenders on the tour. The ASCS season started off this year with a pair of races at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas for the 44th Annual Spring Nationals. With great car counts, the two nights of 360 sprint car racing would prove to be just about as good as it gets.

Forty-eight ASCS sprint cars signed in for night one of the season and night one of the Spring Nationals. In heat race action, Justin started on the pole with John Carney II to his outside. As the green flag waved, Carney got the jump and took off to the lead with Justin in tow. They would cross the checkered flag in the same fashion eight laps later. By virtue of his heat race run, Justin lined the BDS Motorsports #1 up on the outside of row one for the first qualifier event. This time, Justin would get the jump and take off to the early lead using his Parker horsepower. Picking up the qualifier win set Justin up for a fourth-place starting position in the 25-lap A-main event. After 25-laps of intense racing, Justin wheeled the Al Parker powered EMI chassis to a second-place finish, and more importantly locked his BDS team into Saturday’s A-main.

As the final night of the 44th Annual Spring Nationals began, the BDS Motorsports team had a great opportunity to take advantage of their locked-in starting position and watch some of the early races. By time the A-main rolled on the track, car owner and crew chief Bryan Sundby had the BDS #1 ready for racing action. Based on a re-draw, Justin lined up fourth again for the second night in a row. As laps clicked off, Justin raced between second and third and was third behind winner Sam Hafertepe, Jr. and ASCS veteran Johnny Herrera when the caution flag waved on lap 22. Another caution on lap 24 would once again slow the field and shake up the running order for the top three spots. With just six laps to go, Hafertepe would once again have the advantage and cruise to his second straight win, with Justin chasing him to the line for another great second place finish.

Kicking off the 2017 season with a pair of podium finishes will be great momentum as the team heads to Moberly, Missouri next Sunday for a night of racing at the Randolph County Raceway. After that, the ASCS National series will take a weekend off before returning to Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas on April 7th and 8th. Fans can keep up with the BDS Motorsports team and the ASCS tour by joining Racinboys for either audio or video coverage of each event.
