Sheppard cruises to WoO victory at Bulls Gap

Brandon Sheppard once again took the Rocket1 Racing / Valvoline No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches / Durham Racing Engines-powered XR1 Rocket Chassis Super Late Model to Victory Lane. “Track position was more key than ever all three nights with the tire we were on. It made passing difficult. We were in a good position early in the night on Thursday at Cherokee (Speedway), but contact on the start cut down our left rear tire, and after that it was a major uphill battle. We had a solid night at Lavonia Speedway with a podium finish, and then on Saturday night at Volunteer (Speedway), we won our heat and drew the outside-front-row starting spot for the feature. It was kind of a wild feature, but we came out on top.

“Now, we’re extremely excited to be heading to Eldora Speedway for double World 100 events. We’ve won the Dirt Late Model Dream (2019), but we’ve never won the World 100, so hopefully we can get at least one globe this weekend.”

Picking back up with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series, Rocket1 Racing and Brandon Sheppard trekked to Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, S.C.) on Thursday afternoon for the rescheduled Rock Gault Memorial from March 27. In a field of 33 cars, Sheppard started the night by qualifying fastest in his group but contact on the opening lap of his heat race forced him to the tail.

With passing being difficult Brandon was unable to lock into the feature via heat race or B-main action, and as a result was forced to a take a provisional to start the $40,000-to-win A-Main.

Charging from the 12th row, Brandon passed 13 cars in the 60-lap affair to finish 10th.

The following night at Lavonia Speedway (Lavonia, Ga.), for the Charlie Mize Memorial, Brandon’s second-place finish in his heat race earned him a spot in the redraw. Receiving the fourth-starting position, Sheppard improved one spot in the 40-lap affair to place third. He followed Ben Watkins and Tyler Bruening across the line with Brandon Overton and Zack Mitchell rounding out the Top-5.

With 27 Late Models entered on Saturday at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) for the Scorcher 100, Sheppard clocked in third fastest in his group before placing second in his heat race. Avoiding an early scrape on the opening circuit of the feature, Brandon led flag-to-flag in the 40-lapper to bag his ninth win of the season and $10,000 prize. He finished ahead of Chris Madden, Michael Chilton, Tyler Bruening, and Dennis Erb Jr.

Brandon has extended his advantage atop of the World of Outlaws point standings to 180 points.
