Good week in June!
The Legend Racing Team was excited to get a full weekend of racing in with no worries of poor weather. We started at Princeton Speedway on Friday night with the UMSS. The night started off well. The car was working great and Jared captured his first heat race win of the season. The challenge race was not so smooth as Jared was collected in a wreck as he was making his way through the field. With nowhere to go, the car ended up on its side and sustained damage to the front end, one birdcage, wheels, and shocks. We are lucky to have an outstanding crew who methodically pieced the number 9 back together with some extra help from Rob Garin and Greg Schmidt. Thanks guys! While the car was put back together properly, we didn’t have the normal time to keep up with the race track and fine tune the car. Also, the frame was bent very slightly but enough to change the handling. We were happy to get back on the track and race for the strong turnout of fans but could only manage a disappointing 8th place finish.
Eager to get back at it, Jared, Greg, and Greg Schmidt drove on towards Cedar Lake to run the IRA show on Saturday night. This was a late week decision after hearing rumor of low car counts for this show. The goal was mainly to get some track time at a place we need to improve. Expectations were exceeded as we timed 18th out of 23 cars and turned in a solid 13th place feature finish, beating out a few IRA regulars in the process. The car was set up to be fast at the end of the race and Jared did a great job for 30 laps. It was a great all around effort. It was great to see Jared step up to the plate against tougher competition and turn in an exceptional performance.
While we have encountered some tough breaks lately, on track performance has been getting better going back to the end of last year. We hope to carry this momentum into the UMSS race this Saturday, June 9th, at our home track in Brainerd where Jared’s has yet to run worse than 7th. Be sure to come out and cheer us on and bring the whole family if you can. It is kids’ night at North Central Speedway. There will be chances to win bikes and meet the drivers down on the track. It is always a fun event and one we look forward to. See you at the races!
