Top 5!

The Legend Racing Team enjoyed another good night of racing last Saturday at North Central Speedway in Brainerd, MN. We tried some different things with the car during the two rounds of qualifying races to see if we could learn anything to help us in the feature. Jared did a great job of putting himself in a good starting position for the feature by moving up from 5th to 4th in his heat and going from 3rd to 2nd in the challenge race. This lined up the number 9 sprinter 5th in the starting grid for the 20 lap main event.
The track underwent a major transformation before the feature as the prep crew reworked the surface by tilling it up and adding moisture. The field of bad fast UMSS sprinter rolled out for the feature on a lightning quick surface. The car was pretty good but we could have freed it up a little bit more to accommodate for the new track conditions. It took us a little bit by surprise but Jared drove a fantastic race. He hustled his way to a 5th place finish. It was his third top five UMSS finish of his career and second at NCS.
The night was not completely routine. Jared did make slight contact with one of the tractor tires on the inside of the track in his challenge race, bending the tie rod. The crew worked quickly to make the minor repair and get the car back out on the front stretch to participate in kids’ night. It is a neat deal for kids and we felt it was important to be out there for our hometown fans. Thanks to all the friends, family, and others that came out to cheer us on. Thanks also to the UMSS competitors who made a long tow to race at NCS.
As Jared has improved as a driver, the margin for error with the car set up is greater. We have been able to try some things with confidence, knowing our wheel man will make the best of it. Without having to make the car absolutely perfect, we have just been trying to give him a car that is comfortable and drivable and letting his talents do the rest. As a team, we feel we are improving each week. We hope to continue this trend this Saturday at Ogilvie Raceway which is another place we have typically run strong. If you are in the area, come check it out!
