Unzicker podiums at Davenport and Quincy
Ryan Unzicker’s pursuit of the MARS Late Model Championship Series title continued over the weekend with a three-race swing through Iowa and Illinois.
The action began at Davenport Speedway, which hosted the Corn State Nationals on Friday and Saturday. Unzicker opened the weekend with a strong runner-up finish, but misfortune struck in Saturday’s $10,000-to-win A-Main. After briefly taking the lead on lap 30, a right-rear flat tire forced him to the pits. Despite the setback, he rallied from the tail of the field to salvage a 10th-place finish.
On Sunday, Unzicker capped the weekend with a solid third-place effort in the Gem City Showdown at Quincy Raceway, joining race winner Tony Jackson Jr. and runner-up Jason Feger on the podium.
Unzicker currently sits second in the latest MARS championship standings.
