Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 11, 2015) – Caleb Helms is unable to compete at the 55th annual FVP Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store this week.

Helms has returned to Ohio after the team lost its primary engine because of mechanical issues last Sunday at Knoxville Raceway during the 4th annual Capitani Classic.

Last weekend began on Thursday at the half-mile oval with Helms competing in preliminary action during the 25th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals. He qualified 30th quickest to make the heat race inversion, but was slowed during the heat when the throttle linkage came apart.

“The rod that holds the heims together loosened up and came apart,” he said. “We never turned more than 7500 RPMs because I didn’t have full throttle and then it came apart around Lap 4.”

Helms was unable to finish the heat race, which relegated him to the C Main. Unfortunately, a fifth-place finish ended his night early and sent Helms into Saturday’s E Main.

“I felt really good and we finished second in the E Main to earn a transfer, but I made a mistake and didn’t go to the scales so they disqualified us,” he said.

Sunday didn’t go much better for the team as Helms qualified 35th quickest to open the Capitani Classic.

“We were 25th quick in hot laps, but in qualifying I didn’t get up there in time,” he said. “I had to go up at the end and had only one lap and it wasn’t a good lap.”

Helms finished 12th in a heat race, which moved him into the C Main. However, a mechanical issue forced the team into the pits on the opening lap and Helms decided to head home to regroup.

“It was definitely not the Knoxville Nationals we anticipated we would have,” he said. “It didn’t seem like anything went right, but there’s a lot worse things in life than having a couple of tough nights at the track.”
