Inside Line Promotions – PORT ROYAL, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2016) – Caleb Helms is feeling grateful after he came out of the wildest crash of his career unscathed.

Helms was involved in a vicious wreck during an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions heat race last Saturday at Port Royal Speedway on the final night of the Tuscarora 50.

“I was running about where we started in the heat race,” he said. “I came off the corner and didn’t see another driver hit the wall. He was still going, but started slowing down real fast. I had nowhere to go. I ran over his right rear tire and I went for a ride.

“I’m fairly certain it was the worst one. I’ve had some nasty ones before, but that one was pretty wild. I want to thank Jesus for keeping me safe. I’m thankful for the safety crew, track officials and wrecker drivers for their help.”

Helms scratched from the remainder of the night and will be forced to use a backup car the next time he races, which is currently to be determined.

Last weekend began on Friday at the half-mile oval where Helms timed in 28th quickest before placing seventh in a heat race. He then advanced from eighth to sixth place in the B Main and missed transferring into the main event by only two positions.

“We didn’t qualify good,” he said. “I think we had too tall of a gear in to build up enough speed off the corners. We ran where we were in the heat race, but in the B Main we moved forward a couple of spots and were rolling pretty good. We had a couple of laps when we were the fastest car on the track that lap. We thought that would carry over into Saturday, but that didn’t go well.”
