Hahn Charged to a 15th-Place Result in First-Ever Race at Cottage Grove

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 23, 2013) – For his first trip to Oregon, Brandon Hahn is impressed.

“I like Cottage Grove,” he said. “It’s a fun, little joint.”

Hahn and the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour tackled the quarter-mile Cottage Grove Speedway last Friday and Saturday with the doubleheader being taped for a delayed broadcast by Lucas Oil Productions.

“In hot laps on Friday we were fast and the car was working really good,” he said. “We didn’t really keep a close enough eye on the race track from hot laps to heat races. We only tightened up our car a hair and I needed to be tighter. We were just way loose.”

Hahn dropped from third to fifth place in his heat race, which relegated him to start on the inside of the third row for the 12-lap B Main.

“We got some laps and I got a feel for the race track,” he said. “I got a decent start and we were making some clean laps. I found myself in the last transfer spot at the end. I got into a good battle with the local guy at the end.”

Hahn held on for the sixth-and-final transfer to start the 25-lap feature last – 22nd.

“On the start in the first corner I guess someone spun out in front of the field and got in some trouble,” he said. “I made some contact with one of those guys and we knocked our nose wing down. We were moving forward. We gained about seven spots on that first restart.”

Despite a damaged nose wing, which was knocked up against the body, Hahn battled around the 15th position until the crew was able to fix it during a long red flag late in the race.

“We were pretty steady,” he said. “The car was pretty solid considering the nose wing was down, but the track was really racy compared to the heat races and B Main.”

Hahn picked up a couple of positions in the waning laps to score a 15th-place result.

The team returned to the bullring on Saturday, when Hahn charged from fifth to third in his heat race.

“I had a pretty set mind that wherever Jason (Johnson) was going, I was going to follow him,” he said. “He went to the bottom at the start. I picked up a position in turn one and then got another one at the stripe. It was a pretty fast, little race track. Our car was pretty darn good in the heat.”

Hahn started the main event 13th and ended with a 21st-place result.

He and the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour will compete at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on Friday and Saturday.
