American Late Model Iron-Man Series
Rusty Schlenk Dandy in Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Don and Hans Gross Memorial at Wayne County Speedway
ORRVILLE, OHIO (August 9, 2025)– The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP would conclude its Buckeye State doubleheader weekend of racing action on Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, OH for the Don and Hans Gross Memorial and sixth-place starting Rusty Schlenk of McClure, OH would take the lead on a restart on lap ten and would never look back on his way to sweeping the weekend with the series and picking up another $5,000 victory.
The victory for the 39-year-old Schlenk would be his fourth of the season with the series in 2025 and would be his 40th career Valvoline American Late Model Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels and would come aboard the Tyler Borck owned Domination Race Car powered by a Clements Race Engine and has sponsorship from Terry Henricks Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM, Tom Finch Automotive, Tri-State Pole Barns, Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Landrum Performance Springs, Integra Shocks, Domination Race Cars, Dominator Race Products, VP Racing Fuels, Willy’s Carb and Dyno Shop, and Velocita USA.
Caiden Black would snag the lead at the start of the Don and Hans Gross Memorial Valvoline A-Main, with Colton Flinner, Clint Keenan, Rob Anderzack, and Colten Burdette giving chase. Rusty Schlenk would take fifth from Burdette on lap two, would grab fourth from Anderzack on lap three, and take third from Keenan on lap four. Black would continue to hold the lead and was set to begin lapping slower traffic on lap ten when Mike McGinnis would spin in turn three. During the caution, second place Flinner would pull off the track with engine issues. The restart would see Schlenk roll to the outside of turn two and grab the top spot from Black with Burdette, Keenan, and Doug Drown now third through fifth. Keenan would work past Burdette, with Drown and Burdette trading the fourth spot on laps twelve, thirteen, and seventeen, with Drown securing fourth on lap eighteen. Meanwhile, 20th place starter Kyle Moore would take fifth on lap 19 and would work past Drown on lap twenty-two. Schlenk would continue to motor away from the field at the point, with Black still giving chase. Drown would reclaim fourth on lap twenty-six and the caution would wave on lap twenty-eight when J.R. Gentry would slow and during the caution, Moore would pull pitside and Todd Brennan would pit with a flat right-rear and return. Schlenk would hold the point on the restart, with Black in second, with Drown taking third from Keenan, followed by Burdette in fifth. Schlenk would again motor away from the field, while Burdette would take fourth from Keenan on lap twenty-nine and Burdette would claim third on lap thirty-two from Drown. While Schlenk would continue to set a steady pace at the point, Burdette would take second from Black and bring Drown along into third, shuffling Black back to fourth. Schlenk would control the pace over the final few circuits and would grab the victory, with Burdette finishing second, while Drown would take third. Keenan would take fourth and 18th place starting Ryan Markham would finish fifth. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be J.R. Gentry, Black, Rod Conley, Rob Anderzack, and Todd Brennan.
The next events for the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Late Model Series Fueled by VP will be on Friday August 15 at MRP Raceway Park in Williamsburg, OH for the 18th annual Ike Moler Memorial, paying $5,000 to win and $500 to start, followed the 38th Annual VP Racing Fuel Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, KY on Saturday August 16, paying $12,059 to win and $1.200 to start. The “Butterball” event will also be sanctioned by the Ultimate Heart of America Late Super Model Series and Battle of the Bluegrass DIRTcar Series presented by Slicker Graphics.
