Rescheduled ARCA Truck Series Penn Grade 1 ® 100 Presented by Glockner Oil at Columbus This Saturday

Millersport, OH – After numerous downpours left the Columbus Motor Speedway facility soaked from rain, the Penn Grade 1 ® 100 Presented by Glockner Oil was postponed.

Rain struck again the following week at Jennerstown Speedway, cancelling the ARCATruckRacing.com 50 on June 28th. That event is rescheduled for August 8th.

Those two consecutive rain outs gave the ARCA Truck Series teams some much needed time to rejuvenate and be ready for this weekend’s 100 lap affair at Columbus Motor Speedway.

Almost four years have passed since the ARCA Truck Series made their inaugural visit in 2011. Of the 15 drivers that took the green flag that evening, only three plan to participate in the Penn Grade 1 ® 100 Presented by Glockner Oil this Saturday evening.

Those making their second start in an ARCA truck at Columbus Motor Speedway include Shawn Szep, runner up in the 2011 event, Brad Yunker, third place in 2011, and Brandon Huff, who finished 14th.

After getting his first career win at Lake County Speedway earlier this month, Shawn Szep looks to get number two this weekend at what he would consider his home track. Szep tested during the spring to break in his V8, but to also dial in his truck for the two events at Columbus Motor Speedway. Those two events could be crucial to his championship run. “When we tested we had quite a bit different setup than we do now. Hopefully what we changed will be even better,” said an optimistic Szep.

20-small
Brian Brewer

Another local favorite is Holley Performance Rookie of the Year candidate Brian Brewer. “I should be really good there since it is a track that I have run on a weekly basis,” says Brewer. He has had a rough start to the season with three DNF’s. Columbus might provide him that opportunity to break that funk and have a good run. “I hope to have the home crowd behind me and hopefully our bad luck will not strike us.” In 2014 Brewer scored 6 top-10 finishes in 10 starts behind the wheel of his modified at Columbus, while nabbing a heat win.

Aside from the local favorites, one driver comes to Columbus Motor Speedway this Saturday seeking redemption from the 2011 event.

“When we were there last in the trucks (at Columbus Motor Speedway), it was a day full of disaster for us,” recalls Huff from the 2011 event. “We could not get the setup at all; handling of the truck was so far off.” Huff’s day ended on lap three that evening, after being involved in a three truck wreck.

The motivation to make this next event at Columbus Motor Speedway better than the last is only amplified by the previous two events. The Pirate Marine Boat Trailers Chevrolet had an early exit to the June 6th Lincoln Welders 100 at Lake County Speedway, after winning the Rocco Kirsch pole award. Then the following week at Motordrome he again took fast time and would later find himself leading with six laps remaining. His time up front ended after a spin sent him to the tail and he settled for 6th. He looks to end his bad luck at Columbus Motor Speedway with career win number one.

BOBBY
Bobby Dale Earnhardt

Joining the field this weekend for his second start of the season will be Bobby Dale Earnhardt. Earnhardt made the season opener at Toledo Speedway in May driving for Bill Ginn. This time around he will be behind the wheel of the number 9 Quarrick Racing Chevrolet.

Cody Quarrick enters this weekend’s event with three consecutive runner up finishes, two of which have come to 2014 Holley Performance Rookie of the Year Jeff Myers Jr. The two are locked in a tight points battle, one that Quarrick leads by a mere 29 points. However, each driver will be making their first ever start at the one-third mile Columbus Motor Speedway this Saturday.

Holley Performance Rookie of the Year points leader Katlynn Leer leads fellow rookie contender BJ Wollerman into their first appearance at Columbus Motor Speedway. Leer comes to Columbus fresh off her best career finish at Motordrome, while Wollerman looks to better his previous finishes at Toledo and Lake County Speedway.
