Top-10 finish in Gateway Dirt Nationals preliminary
After picking up a preliminary victory in the event in 2022, Cody Bauer returned to The Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Mo.) on Friday to compete in his preliminary night for the seventh running of the Gateway Dirt Nationals.
With the massive 127-car field divided into two groups over Thursday and Friday, Bauer followed up a third-place finish in his heat with a consolation victory. Chasing a $5,000 payday in his preliminary feature, Cody clawed forward four spots in the 25-lapper to register a 10th-place finish.
Starting on the second row of his heat race on Saturday afternoon, Cody lost a spot to finish fourth, relegating him into a B-Main for one final chance at the $30,000-to-win Gateway Dirt Nationals finale. With only the race winner transferring into the show, Bauer gained three positions but fell short of qualifying with a fifth-place outing.
