One Hot Night With LMSS & USRA Weekly Racing

The Sportsmans kicked off the feature events with 8 cars taking the green flag. Bryant Klaassen took the early lead, but Andy Wiexzorek roared by him on the inside lane. After a late restart, Brian Kroon came out of nowhere to take the lead, but once again, Wiexzorek would not be denied his second victory of the year, taking back the lead with two laps to go. The USRA Hobby Stock feature saw 19 cars take the green, but that number declined rapidly with caution after caution plaguing the race. Alex Wiertzma grabbed the early lead and battled hard with Chad Lonneman for the first half of the race before Lonneman was DQ’d. A green-white-checkered restart saw multiple leaders on the final lap. Dustin Gulbrandson made the pass through turn one, but Wiertzma crossed under Gulbrandson coming out of corner number two, and held off point leader Dylan Fitzpatrick and Tim Waltner at the finish line. The drive of the night had to go to USRA B-Modified driver Thor Anderson. Another stacked field of drivers took the green for the B-Mod feature, with Thor Anderson rolling off 18th after transferring in through the b-feature. Lyndon Johnson was a rocket out of the gate, and looked to be running away to the victory, leading the first 13 laps of the feature. Little did Johnson know, Anderson was making the top-side of the track work, passing Johnson on lap 14, and taking his first victory of the year at Rapid Speedway. A talented field of 16 drivers took the green flag for the USRA Stock Car feature. Eric Gaul took the early lead, with three-wide racing throughout the field behind him. Two-time winner this year, Elijah Zevenbergen, quickly made his way to 2nd place, and wasted little time getting around Gaul for the lead. Zevenbergen looked like he was running away with the win, but Gaul reeled the 66z in, putting constant pressure of Zevenbergen’s bumper. Zevenbergen would hit his spots perfectly on a G-W-Checkered restart to pick-up his 3rd victory of the year, and pad his points lead. For the first time this year, the Late Model Street Stock Touring Series invaded Rapid Speedway. Travis Schreurs took his front row starting spot in the feature and did not waste it. Schreurs led all 20 laps, with constant pressure from Zach Van Voorst, and even surviving a couple late restarts. Next week, June 17, we will have the premier of the newly formed Midwest Late Models at Rapid Speedway, along with our weekly USRA racing and Sportsmans!
