Godsey marches to sixth-place finish in Hell Tour opener at Brownstown

Tuesday night found both Jeff Roth and Joe Godsey in action at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Ind.) to kick off the DIRTcar Summer Nationals with the Hoosier Dirt Classic. In a field of 31 Late Models, both drivers locked their spot into the opening night feature with a sixth-place finish in their heat. Coming one spot shy of a Top-5 finish, Godsey advanced through the field 12 spots to register a sixth-place finish. Roth dropped one spot in the 40-lapper to finish 17th. (Brendon Bauman photo)

On Wednesday evening at Peoria Speedway (Peoria, Ill.), Joe grabbed the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat while Jeff finished eighth. Needing a fourth-place finish or better in his C-Main to make the B-Main, Roth logged a fifth-place outing. With $5,000 on the line in the feature, Godsey passed two cars to record a 12th-place outing.

The following night at Kankakee County Speedway (Kankakee, Ill.), both drivers failed to transfer out of their heat races, sending them into a B-Main. With a provisional already secured, Godsey departed early from his consolation event while Roth placed ninth. Rolling off 21st, Joe improved eight positions to place 13th.

For the fourth round on Friday at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.), Jeff and Joe failed to qualify for the $10,000-to-win A-Main via their heat race, transferring them into the B-Main. Locking in the Top 4, Jeff finished ninth while Joe elected to use his provisional and scratch from the 12-lap consolation event. Starting in 19th, Godsey improved seven positions to finish 12th.

On Saturday afternoon at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.), Godsey placed eighth in his heat while Roth finished ninth. Jeff’s night was over after placing 10th in his B-Main while Joe already had a provisional secured. With $10,000 on the line, Joe jumped five spots to log a 17th-place outing.

Sunday's finale at Plymouth Speedway (Plymouth, Ind.) fell victim to Mother Nature.

Joe is currently ninth in the DIRTcar Summer Nationals point standings.
