Wenger pockets $5,012 payday in Richard Craven Memorial at FALS
FAIRBURY, Ill. (07/12/25) – One week after notching his first win of the season, McKay Wenger backed it up in a big way Saturday night by turning back a late charge from Ryan Unzicker to win the Richard Craven Memorial at Fairbury Speedway. The victory earned Wenger a $5,012 payday and marked his second triumph of the season.
Piloting his No. 42 Longhorn Chassis Late Model for just the third time in 2025, Wenger led the final 17 circuits of the 40-lap feature, honoring the late Richard Craven—a former champion at both Fairbury and Kankakee Speedway.
"It was awesome. The track was great. It was really fun racing with Ryan there," Wenger said. "He's one of the best there when it's around the hub like that, so I knew I was going to have to be good enough to hold him off. I knew once if he got down in front of me it was going to be a lot harder."
Wenger’s weekend kicked off Friday at Farmer City Raceway, where he won his heat race before the program was halted by rain during the feature. The 25-lap main was postponed on lap seven due to lingering weather.
Back in action Saturday at Fairbury, Wenger qualified fourth overall and picked up a heat race win. He traded the lead early in the feature before taking command for good on lap 24, ultimately scoring his second straight victory at the quarter-mile oval.
