Camarillo and Rutherford Go Toe To Toe As VRA Sprints Return This Saturday Night

( Oxnard, CA., 4-24-12) Ventura Raceway resumes racing this Saturday night April 28 at 5:30 PM at its Ventura County Fairgrounds Facility with a full program of exciting short track dirt racing. Saturday night we will feature VRA Sprint Cars, VRA Dwarf Cars, Sport Compacts, Mod Lites and three kid's classes. All the drivers in each class will be gong all out to score points to see who will be on top in the season long point's race when racing concludes in November.

VRA 360 Sprints are back after nearly a month off to resume their highly competitive form of all out racing action. Battling at speeds up to 80mph around Ventura's tight 1/5 mile oval always keeps fans on the edge of their seats. Point leader Troy Rutherford leads the field into Saturday's racing. He leads Brian Camarillo, Tom Hendricks, Kyle Smith and John Nock after three previous events in their 2012 season. All the other top VRA stars are expected to be there to try to move up in the point race.

VRA Dwarf cars return to action after last week's event that saw past champions George Calvo take the win in Seniors and Ray Estrada in the Pros. Last week there were 37 dwarf cars signed in to the pits. With this many expected again this week; we expect the racing to be top notch again. Kevin Calvo leads the Pro point race while Mike Lewis leads in Seniors.

VRA Sport Compacts resume their competition this weekend. Trevor Fitzgibbon leads the field into racing this week. He is a past champion who has his sights set on another championship this season. All the other drivers in this class for up and coming racers will be trying to stop him from taking another championship in 2012.

The final adult class racing this week is our new Mod Lite class. So far 2011 series champ Kevin Alverson has dominated the class with two wins in two events held so far in 2012. This new class is in its second season and as it grows in car count we can expect some exciting racing action,

Our three VRA kid's divisions are back to entertain our fans Saturday night. VRA Mini Dwarf Pistons and Mini Dwarf Superchargers will be racing as will our Junior Midgets. Point leaders Nick Velasquez in Superchargers and Miles Hedrick in Junior Midgets will resume their battle to try to take their respective series championships. Drivers in the Piston class do not race for points so there is no point leader. Blake Hendricks has won the first two races in their 2012 season.

Ventura Raceway will celebrate Scout night this weekend. As a special addition to this weeks event all Scouts in uniform will be admitted free. Their chaperones will be admitted for $10.00.

Admission prices for this event are: $14.00 for Adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors with kids 12 and under free with adult admission. Pit gates will open at 12 noon with warm-ups getting under way at 3:30 and racing at 5:30. For more information, please call Ventura Raceway at (805) 985-5433 x115.
