Jarrett Martin and Stephen Simpson III Peddle Their Way into Victory Lane at CSP’s Kids Bike Giveaway Night

26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (May 23rd, 2017) – Jarrett Martin recorded his second victory of the season while Stephen Simpson III scored his first of the year Saturday night at Canyon Speedway Park.
17-winged Power 600 Series – Precision Tile Micro Sprints made the call for CSP’s Kids Bike Giveaway Night. Michael Colegrove, Paul Martin, and Ryan Henesey picked up Heat race wins. Jarrett Martin started third in Heat 1 and moved up one position to finish second, earning him enough passing points to make the 6-car invert and start on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap Feature.
It only took Martin a lap to move passed pole sitter Corsair Hancock as the two raced side by side entering turn 1 on the second lap. Martin completed the pass as they exited turn 2. Martin pulled out to a half straightaway lead, but a caution just before the halfway point bunched the field back up. Martin again pulled out to a half straightaway lead as the laps ticked away. Michael Colegrove, who started fourth, moved into second with about 10 laps to go and began to cut into Martin’s lead. With no lapped traffic between them in the final 4 laps, Colegrove cut the lead down to a few car lengths but never had the opportunity to challenge Martin for the lead. Martin led 24 of the 25 laps to pick up his second victory of the year. Colegrove finished in second with Colton Hardy completing the podium in third from his seventh starting position. Paul Martin and Kyle Huttenhow rounded out the Top 5.
Stephen Simpson III lined up second for the Restricted Feature after finishing third from second in the Heat earlier in the night. Simpson got shuffled back to 4th on the start and made contact with Kaiden Clark as Clark spun in turn 2. Simpson moved into third as Cameron LaRose and Scotty Milan battled it out for the lead. Simpson grabbed the second position after Milan clipped an infield tire, ending his night early. Simpson battled LaRose for the lead in the closing laps, Simpson pulled even with LaRose as they raced down the backstretch into turn 3. Simpson exited turn 4 with the lead as they came to the white flag. He’d hold off LaRose on the last lap to pick up his first win of the season.
The Power 600 Series – Precision Tile Micro Sprints return to Canyon Speedway Park for Non-Wing action this weekend as part of the Salute to Indy event. Restricted Micros, Sands Chevrolet USAC Southwest Sprint Cars, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Modlites will also be in action. Pit gates open at 4, spectator gates open at 5 with racing action getting underway at 7:30. There is a mandatory driver’s meeting at the Power 600 Series trailer directly following Canyon’s driver meeting.
