Tennessee Driver Prepping for House of Hook Showdown at Whynot

HOHENWALD, Tenn. (03/25/25) – Hometown driver Oakley Johns bagged his first win of the season over the weekend with a $2,500 triumph in Saturday’s eighth annual Icebreaker at Tennessee National Raceway.

Johns, who was pulling double duty in his Limited Late Model and Street Stock, piloted his Johns Timber / Franklin Enterprises / Cale Finley Performance Parts & Fabrication No. c6 Late Model to the dominant victory, winning by more than a four-second margin over Ashley Newman.

"Hats off to my team," Johns said. "This is the first time we've brought this car out this year, and I’d say it went pretty well. We were slightly off in qualifying yesterday, but we made the right adjustments, and the car felt great tonight. I'm looking forward to next weekend with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series at Whynot."

Johns invaded his home track of Tennessee National Raceway (Hohenwald, Tenn.) on Friday afternoon for the eighth annual Icebreaker weekend, where he competed in both the Limited Late Model and Street Stock divisions.

In Street Stock competition, Johns finished fourth in a heat race on Friday before driving to a third-place finish in the 25-lap finale on Saturday.

Aboard the Zippy Autos No. c6 Late Model, Oakley laid down the second-fastest lap in Limited Late Model qualifying on Friday, earning him the outside pole for the 30-lap main event on Saturday. Johns took the lead from the initial start and led flag-to-flag to pick up a $2,500 payday and his first checkered flag of the young season.

He finished 4.471 seconds ahead of runner-up Ashley Newman with Grayson Brewer rounding out the podium.

The Tennessee native is actively preparing for a doubleheader with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series at Whynot Motorsports Park. Johns enters the weekend as one of seven drivers competing for the Rookie of the Year title, with an $8,000 preliminary payday on the line Friday, followed by Saturday’s $12,000-to-win House of Hook Showdown finale.
