American Late Model Iron-Man Series
Zack Mitchell’s “Birthday Race” Present worth $10,000 at Oakshade Raceway
WAUSEON, OHIO (July 13, 2025)—Zack Mitchell dominated Oakshade Raceway on Saturday Night for a $10,000 prize in the 28th edition of the Birthday Race. The event was co-sanctioned by the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series fueled by VP and the DIRTcar Summer Nationals.
The Enoree, S.C. driver led flag-to-flag and captured his third-career Summer Nationals Series victory and his first-career American Late Model Iron-Man Series payday, becoming the 172nd different winner in series history. Mitchell drove the Brett Coltman-owned Longhorn Chassis powered by a Clements Racing Engine to the win. His # 57 entry is sponsored by Coltman Farms Racing, Autism Awareness, Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett, MPM Marketing, SoCar Chemical, DirtCarLift.com, Boswell Oil, VP Racing Fuels, SRI Performance, Bayea Headers, Swift Springs & Bilstein Shocks.
Three Deatherage Racing Opticians Caution flags slowed the 40-lapper. The first yellow flag came on lap-nine as Thomas Hunzicker spun. The second yellow flag came on lap-37 as Chase Burda found trouble in turn-two. The final yellow flag came on the restart involving Tyler Erb, Colten Burdette, Devin Shiels, Jason Feger and more. As reported by DirtonDirt.com, “it appeared Feger tried to go to Erb’s outside and caught the corner of Erb’s car to trigger the mess.” After the last restart, Mitchell had clean racetrack in front of him to go on to the victory at the Wauseon, Ohio oval.
Mitchell became the eighth different winner in ten events (nine have been points races) with the only repeat winners of the season being Rusty Schlenk and Josh Rice. A total of 166 different drivers has raced in at least one points-paying event this season so far.
The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series is back to action on Friday July 18 at MRP Raceway Park in Williamsburg, Ohio paying $7,500-to-win for the 5th Annual Dustbuster 40 event. The series will then visit Atomic Speedway near Waverly, Ohio on Saturday July 19 for the Summer Sizzle paying $5,000-to-win. Both events also count for points in the Valvoline Weekend Allstars mini-tour.
