Holland wraps up Summit Modified Nationals with best finish of 3rd in Week 5
The almost-daily racing schedule for the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals came to a close on the second week of July and saw Chase Holland add another podium finish to his stellar “Hell Tour” run. He competed in three events in Week 5, racing in fields averaging more than 41 DIRTcar UMP Modifieds each night. Only the Prairie Dirt Classic remains at Fairbury (Illinois) Speedway in two weeks.
On Tuesday, the grueling tour stopped at the quarter-mile Shadyhill Speedway in Medaryville, Indiana, where Holland finished seventh in his heat race driving his Industrial Dock & Door Co. No. 45 machine. He did not start a B-Main or the 25-lap feature.
The next night, the schedule shifted to Montpelier (Indiana) Motor Speedway, which drew a stout 49-car field. Holland won his heat on the quarter-mile oval and started fifth in the 25-lap main event. He picked up two spots to complete the podium after Tyler Nicely and Dalton Smith. David Stremme and Trevor Neville took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Quincy, Michigan’s 3/8-mile Butler Speedway was on the docket on Thursday. Holland qualified with the quickest time in his group and was runner–up in his heat. He went on to both start and finish sixth in the 25-lap feature race.
With weather threatening the final three nights of the Summit Modified Nationals at Crystal (Michigan) Motor Speedway. Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio, and Orrville, Ohio’s Wayne County Speedway, Holland and his team elected to instead race in Illinois over the weekend.
Holland picked up one win, eight top-five finishes and 14 top-10 results during his Summit Modified Nationals Hell Tour slate.
On Friday, the No. 45 team rolled into Farmer City (Illinois) Raceway to compete in a 20-car DIRTcar UMP Modified show at the quarter-mile track. Holland grabbed third in his heat, then started sixth and finished as runner-up behind Steven Brooks in the 20-lap main event. Ben Harmon, Carson Friedman and Wade Wenthe completed the top five.
Holland wrapped up his week of racing on Saturday at Fairbury Speedway as part of the Richard Craven Memorial, an event that brought 45 Modifieds to the quarter-mile speed plant. Holland qualified with the second-quickest time in his group and won his heat race from the pole. He started third and finished fourth in the 30-lap, $2,012-to-win A-Main, taking the checkered flag behind Michael Long, Brooks and Jeff Curl. Zeke McKenzie was fifth.
