Weber Makes History at Hawkeye
Cedar Rapids, IA (October 11th, 2025) - History is written by winners and it was Michael Weber who was able to write his name down when he picked up the win at Hawkeye Downs Speedway with the Midwest Legends Dirt Series.
Thirty-four cars made the trip down to Iowa for a once in a blue moon night. Dirt was put on the asphalt track for the first time in many years and the action was hot. Track regulars like 2025 Legend champion Kevin Korsmo, Kacey Korsmo, Danny Lehmkuhl, and Jeremiah Davis all threw dirt tires on and prepared for the challenge. Many other MLDS regulars were in attendance at the big show.
Jordan Miklas led the way in Fall River Foundry hotlaps with Mike Mueller second and grandson Ryan Sullivan third, already out of retirement. Cohen Henze and Chris Sleep rounded out the top five.
Four N&S Towing heat races were next on the cards, with Eric Blumer taking home another heat win. Griffin McGrath came second with Henze continuing a good night in third.
Heat two was all Kacey Korsmo’s, with the driver who is no stranger to wins at the track picking up the win over Cody Moline and Davis close behind.
Weber was the best in heat three, with the 2025 Asphalt Late Model champion taking the win. He finished in front of Kevin Korsmo and Dave Eberle.
The winner of the 2025 season finale Miklas took the win in heat four, with season opener winner Robby Morrison and Cole O’Brien rounding out the top three.
Fastline Design & Graphics B-Main went to Colton Irving, with Warren Ropp, Danny Lehmkuhl, and Nate Werner all picking up transfer spots with him.
The twenty-five lap A-main rolled onto the surface lastly, with Henze and Morrison on the front row. Henze got the jump, leading through the first laps, while Davis moved into second and eventually first. Attention turned to Weber further back, who began making passes on the highline, being the only one really able to do it for the first few laps. Miklas found the top and moved into the third spot, chasing down the leaders. Miklas moved into the lead quickly and began running away from the field, with Weber closing in and following him up top. Weber made quick work of Miklas for the lead up high, with the two dueling after for the lead. Caution flew as Moline and Ryan Mech found themselves spun around in turn three. Weber led Miklas and Blumer to the green as racing got back underway. Caution flew again as Morrison, Kacey Korsmo, Lehmkuhl, and Irving all got tangled up, ending their nights early. After a lengthy cleanup, the same order led the field back to speed momentarily. Red was in the air as Henze, trying to use up all of the highline, got too high, rode the wall, and rolled out of the park. Henze was okay and racing resumed. Weber got the jump, Miklas was second on the bottom, and Blumer went high, having to deal with boss man McGrath. Two quick cautions flew, and drama struck for Miklas, who got into the back wall, bringing out the yellow and ending his night just laps before the finish. The final restart really wasn’t much to talk about, with Weber, Blumer, and McGrath leading the field through the final laps.
Michael Weber had only finished outside the podium once at Hawkeye Downs in his late model en-route to his championship, and he added another win onto his yearly resume, picking this one up on the dirt in a legend. Blumer brought home second, and McGrath rounded out an all Legends Direct podium. Sullivan and Davis rounded out the podium.
The win got Weber contingency rewards from Aero Race Wheels and Rush Race Gear. Blumer brought home the Professional Plating and Rush Race Gear hard charger spot, one of four drivers up ten spots in the end.
The Midwest Legends Dirt Series returns to action to wrap up the 2025 season this coming Saturday, the 18th, right where it started the season, Maquoketa Speedway, for the Iowa Dirt Nationals.
